A full set of press renders for the Lenovo Googlebook 15 has leaked, giving the clearest look yet at Google’s Android-powered laptop wave ahead of an expected announcement at IFA in September. The images, published by Digital Citizen and picked up by Android Authority, show a machine Google controls more tightly than it ever did the Chromebook.
The keyboard tells the story
The palm rest says “Googlebook”, not ThinkPad. The Windows key is gone, replaced by a hardware Gemini key marked with a stylised G between Fn and Alt. Caps Lock doubles as the launcher toggle, a habit carried over from the Chromebook era, and the function row runs to 14 keys, covering refresh, screenshot, backlight, mute and accessibility shortcuts. There is no number pad — unusual on a 15-inch machine — which leaves room for a trackpad that appears to take up the whole lower deck.
Ports that make sense
Full-size HDMI, two USB-C, one USB-A, an SD card reader and a 3.5mm jack. The display has slim bezels and a camera notch with a physical privacy shutter. Upward-firing speakers carry Dolby Atmos branding, with extra cutouts on the sides — it looks like a four-speaker setup. The underside gets a fluted metal texture that Digital Citizen describes as “corduroy in metal”, and the hinge opens to 157.5 degrees.
The software is the real leak
The renders show the Android-derived desktop in action: a phone-style status bar along the top, and a taskbar carrying the usual Google services alongside Canva and Adobe Premiere Pro. Premiere Pro sitting in the dock of a Google laptop is a statement — Chromebooks were never taken seriously for creative work, and Google wants Googlebooks judged as real computers.
No specs came with the images. Processor, memory, display resolution, battery and price all remain unknown. Google said the first Googlebooks — from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo — land this autumn at a more premium price point than Chromebooks. The global memory shortage is doing the price tag no favours.
What it means for the UAE
There is no UAE pricing or availability yet. Lenovo is expected to announce the Googlebook 15 at IFA in September, with the first devices on sale in autumn 2026. Two things are clear from what has leaked so far: the new Aluminium OS is built on Android, which means most existing Chromebooks will be left out, and these will not be the cheap education machines that gave Chromebooks their reputation. With memory prices still climbing, laptop bills in the UAE are heading up, and a premium Googlebook will sit at the sharp end of that.
When will the Lenovo Googlebook 15 launch?
Lenovo is expected to announce it at IFA in September, with the first Googlebooks on sale in autumn 2026. Neither company has confirmed dates.

Will my existing Chromebook run the new OS?
Almost certainly not. The new OS is built on Android rather than ChromeOS, and Google has said little about upgrading existing machines — most Chromebooks look set to miss out.
