Gemini 4 is nearly ready, Google DeepMind chief says

Google says Gemini 4 is in refinement and could arrive much earlier than the end of 2026, according to comments from Koray Kavukcuoglu, the new head of Google DeepMind.

Kavukcuoglu told The Information that Google wants to release an early post-training output “as soon as possible” and continue iterating quickly. The Verge reports that the model is now in its refinement stage, but Google has not announced a launch date or detailed specifications.

Gemini 4 is still in refinement

Google’s last flagship release was the Gemini 3 series in November 2025. The company later focused on faster Flash models while Gemini 3.5 Pro remained in testing, according to Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s Q2 earnings remarks.

Google’s own account said it had started its most ambitious pre-training run yet for Gemini 4 by July. That does not confirm what the finished model will offer, and neither Google nor DeepMind has published benchmark results, pricing or a consumer release window.

Google has not confirmed a UAE release date

Gemini is already available to users in the UAE, including through Google’s consumer and developer products.
