Boox has announced the Boox Palma 3, a pocket-sized e-reader that adds stylus support, an aluminium frame and Android 16 while keeping the phone-like shape of the Palma line. The device has a 6.13-inch HD e-paper display with an 824 × 1648 resolution and 300 ppi. It runs Android 16 with access to Google Play, giving the Boox Palma 3 more flexibility than a conventional e-reader. The official store lists 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a microSD slot supporting cards up to 2TB.
Boox Palma 3 adds a camera, microphones and stylus support
Boox has fitted the Palma 3 with a 16MP rear camera and flash for scanning documents. Dual microphones support voice memos and speech-to-text, while the device also has a built-in speaker, fingerprint recognition and page-turn buttons.
The Palma 3 supports Boox’s InkSense Plus stylus, which is sold separately for $46. That makes it useful for handwritten notes and annotations as well as reading, although the company is still selling an e-reader with a camera and a microphone — an idea that would once have sounded like a committee meeting.
