The Android Dev Summit Android 18 agenda points to a return for Google’s developer conference on October 28–29, with a first reference to “powerful new graphics features” in the next version of Android.

The description mentions mesh gradients, progressive blurs and new graphics capabilities, alongside work on performance, battery life and frame rates.
That is an unusually direct mention of a future Android version in an event agenda. It does not confirm a launch date or a developer preview, however. 9to5Google reports that an Android 18 preview in October would be early, given that Android 16 testing began in November.
AI, XR and Android’s next developer tools
Android 18 graphics are only one part of the programme. Other sessions cover connecting apps to Gemini, Search and the Android intelligence system, including the Android Context Engine and proactive experiences across apps. Another session focuses on audio-first experiences for intelligent eyewear with Gemini Nano 4.
The agenda suggests Google is treating Android as a wider platform for AI and XR development, rather than a phone release with a few extra settings. Developers will have to wait for the event to find out how much of that reaches public tools and APIs.
