Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm have announced Star Wars: Ahsoka – Escape From Thrawn, a five-issue miniseries that fills in the gap between the first and second seasons of the Disney+ show. According to StarWars.com, the reveal came ahead of Lucasfilm Publishing’s panel at New York Comic Con.

The series follows Ezra Bridger. At the end of season one, he escaped the distant planet Peridea by stowing away on Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship, the Chimaera. The comic covers what happens next: how Ezra gets off that ship and finds his way back to the New Republic.

Who’s making it

Dave Filoni, the creator of Ahsoka and now Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer, provides the story. Rodney Barnes, who wrote Star Wars: Lando – Double or Nothing, writes the script. Andrea Di Vito (Annihilation) handles the art, and Phil Noto draws the cover to the first issue.

The official synopsis has Ezra hunted across hyperspace with nowhere to hide. He must evade Captain Enoch, counter the dark magick of the Nightsisters and outwit Thrawn, whom the synopsis calls the Empire’s greatest strategist. Marvel pitches it as a companion to the new season of the show.

Release timing

Issue #1 goes on sale on 20 January 2027, the same day Ahsoka season two premieres on Disney+. IGN reports that the comic is meant to bridge the two seasons, so readers can pick it up as a prequel to the new episodes. Marvel hasn’t yet detailed the release schedule for the remaining four issues.

The announcement sits alongside a broader push from Disney’s franchise teams. If you’re following the studio’s plans, our D23 2026 roundup covers the other major reveals.
