Leaked packaging photos appear to show a Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console and Pro Controller, both stamped with the franchise’s 40th anniversary logo rather than any Ocarina of Time branding.
Brazilian journalist Necro Felipe Lima, editor-in-chief of Universo Nintendo, shared the images on X on 11 August, saying they matched what he had been shown previously. Asked whether either image was fake, he replied: “Both are legit.” Lima correctly leaked the Switch 2 logo in January 2025, before Nintendo revealed it.
Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2: what the images show
The console packaging shows a Switch 2 with a Triforce design across the dock, and olive-green Joy-Cons carrying their own Triforce motifs with gold accents. The Pro Controller gets a gold faceplate patterned with Zelda geometry, green grips and black buttons, echoing the Tears of the Kingdom controller that paired white grips with a black body for Switch 1.
A further image shows the controller’s back, where an 8-bit Link from the original 1986 game throws his sword beside the Switch 2 logo.
Nintendo has not confirmed any 40th anniversary plans. The anniversary branding points at the series itself rather than this year’s Ocarina of Time remake, which was announced at the June Nintendo Direct and is due later this year. The live-action Zelda film opens on 30 April 2027.
If the packaging is genuine, a Zelda Direct that shows the remake, dates it and possibly reveals this hardware is starting to look likely. Nintendo, as ever, is saying nothing.
