YouTube confirms blank homepage issue across phones, web and TVs

Google has confirmed a YouTube blank homepage problem affecting viewers across the mobile apps, web interface and smart TVs. The company says YouTube TV can open to a black screen, while the main YouTube app may show blank or missing thumbnails across Home, Shorts and the You tab. Android Authority reported the outage after users began reporting the issue across platforms.

What is causing the YouTube blank homepage issue?

Google has not provided a cause or a restoration time. In its YouTube support forum update, TeamYouTube described the problem as a known issue and said its teams were investigating and trying to mitigate it.

The support post says reports were primarily coming from Texas in the United States, but the symptoms described by Android Authority include Android and iPhone apps, the web version and smart TVs. YouTube TV is affected as well. The problem is therefore broader than a single mobile app, although Google has not confirmed the full geographic scope.

How to access YouTube while it is down

YouTube recommends trying a secondary internet connection or a mobile hotspot if one is available. Android Authority says some affected users were able to load the service after turning off Wi-Fi on a phone, although that is a temporary workaround rather than a fix.

For viewers in the UAE, Google has not confirmed a separate local outage or a timetable for restoration. If YouTube is showing a blank Home feed or YouTube TV is opening to a black screen, switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data is the practical first test. Signing out and back in has not resolved the problem for everyone.

The support thread had 4,747 users marking that they had the same question when checked on September 8, while Google continued to investigate. YouTube has not said whether the issue affects video playback after a video is opened directly.
