- Free Update lands 5 December 2025
- Third-person view toggles on the fly; Ubisoft reworked animations, controls, audio and camera
- New Game+ lets you replay with gear/skills, tougher enemies, a fresh skill tree and stronger equipment
Ubisoft is rolling out a sizeable free update for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on 5 December 2025. You’ll be able to switch to a third-person camera at any time and start a New Game+ run that keeps your build but ups the challenge. Massive says it rebuilt core systems so the new view feels right, rather than a hack. For a game built first-person, that’s a big shift.
Third-person mode, finally
The game launched as a first-person adventure. Soon, you can step back and actually see your Na’vi — without mods or compromises.
- Toggle third-person “at the push of a button.”
- Switch between first- and third-person on the fly.
- Ubisoft says animations, controls, audio and camera were reworked for this view.
This isn’t a simple camera pull-back. The studio calls out rebuilt animation and camera work, which should prevent the usual jank that happens when you bolt third-person onto a first-person game. If it lands, traversal and combat could feel more readable, especially during busy skirmishes.
New Game+ with teeth
If you’ve finished the story, NG+ gives you a reason to run it back.
- Carry over inventory and skills.
- Harder enemies from the start.
- Access to a new skill tree and more powerful equipment.
This looks like the classic power-trip loop: keep your kit, face tougher foes, chase new perks. It should also smooth out late-game builds that never had time to breathe the first time through.
Why Ubisoft is doing this now
The studio calls Pandora a “living world” that evolves with players — which lines up with Ubisoft’s wider push to extend games post-launch instead of spinning up yearly sequels. We’ve seen similar long-tail updates around the publisher’s other series recently, from Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s free AlUla expansion to The Division 2’s new mode plans.
- Ubisoft’s stated goal: keep games alive with meaningful updates.
- Third-person + NG+ are fan-requested features, and they’re free.
- It positions Avatar for a second wind alongside the film.
For context on how Ubisoft has been iterating on live titles, see our coverage of Mirage’s AlUla update and The Division 2: Survivors mode on Tbreak:

What to do now
If you bounced off Pandora because you prefer third-person or wanted a tougher replay, this is your re-entry point.
- Finish your first run if you haven’t — your build will carry to NG+.
- Bookmark 5 December and make storage space.
- Try both cameras; some activities may still feel better first-person.
Third-person will also make sharing clips/screens easier. Expect your feed to flood with Na’vi fashion once photo mode folks get their hands on it.
When does the update release?
5 December 2025. No paid upgrade needed. It’s a free title update.
Is the third-person camera always on?
No. You can toggle between first- and third-person at any time. Ubisoft says it’s a smooth switch.
What carries over into New Game+?
Your inventory and skills. You’ll face tougher enemies and gain access to a new skill tree and stronger gear during the NG+ run.
Does this include new story content?
This update focuses on the camera option and NG+ systems. No new story is mentioned here.
Why is Ubisoft doing this now?
It lines up with the next Avatar film and keeps the game active with features players have asked for.
