The Day of the Jackal (often shortened to Jackal on social) is a modern spy thriller series based on Frederick Forsyth’s classic novel, reimagined in a contemporary political setting. Eddie Redmayne plays an elusive international assassin, with Lashana Lynch as the MI6 officer hunting him across Europe.

  • US: Peacock (Peacock Original)
  • Other regions: NBCUniversal distributes it via partners like Foxtel (Australia), Showcase (Canada), JioCinema (India), Showmax (Africa), TVNZ+ (NZ), Disney+ in Latin America and SkyShowtime across parts of Europe.

In some markets, the season is also available to buy digitally via Prime Video / transactional stores; availability can vary by country, but the safest bet in the UAE is OSN+.

What Is The Day of the Jackal About?

This 2024 British spy thriller reimagines Forsyth’s story for a modern world of data, surveillance and tech billionaires.

  • The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) is an elite, anonymous assassin who only takes the highest-paying contracts.
  • After a particularly high-profile hit, he becomes the obsession of Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch), a driven British intelligence officer.
  • What follows is a globe-trotting cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, with shifting identities, double-crosses and collateral damage in the Jackal’s wake.

It’s not a straight remake of the 1973 film – it’s a new story using the Jackal character and premise, updated with cyber-security, tech-bro politics and modern geopolitics baked in.

How Many Seasons & Episodes Does The Day of the Jackal Have?

Right now:

  • Seasons: 1
  • Episodes: 10 (roughly 46–61 minutes each)
  • Original run: Premiered 7 November 2024 in the UK (Sky), 14 November 2024 on Peacock US, concluded mid-December 2024.
  • Status: Renewed for Season 2 by Peacock and Sky.

OSN+ carries the full Season 1 box set in the UAE.

In What Order Should You Watch The Day of the Jackal?

Nice and simple:

  1. Season 1, Episodes 1–10 in order.

It’s a tightly serialised story – don’t skip around:

  • The early episodes establish the Jackal’s code, his handler network and Bianca’s backstory.
  • Later episodes pay off seeds planted in the pilot (Afghanistan history, clients, tech plotline, etc.).

When Season 2 arrives on OSN+, you’ll almost certainly need all of Season 1 under your belt.

Is The Day of the Jackal Kid-Friendly?

Short answer: no – this is for adults / older teens only.

On OSN+ it’s rated PG15, but in most markets it’s treated as TV-MA, and the tone is very much adult spy thriller.

Expect:

  • Realistic gun violence and tense stand-offs
  • Assassinations and aftermaths
  • Some strong language
  • Dark, suspenseful tone throughout
  • Occasional adult themes (sex, moral compromise, torture implied rather than graphic)

It’s not suitable for kids, and not something you want on in the background with younger children around. For a teen who’s already watching shows like Jack Ryan, Slow Horses or Bodyguard, this is roughly in that ballpark.
