What Is Love Story About?
Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette charts the whirlwind romance, marriage, and tragic death of one of the most photographed couples of the 1990s. It’s the first instalment in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story anthology series, and part of the broader American Story franchise (alongside American Horror Story and American Crime Story).
JFK Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) was the closest thing America had to royalty — son of a president, voted “Sexiest Man Alive,” fixture of New York nightlife. Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) was a Calvin Klein executive with killer style and zero interest in becoming a public figure. Their connection was immediate, but the relentless paparazzi attention and Kennedy family expectations threatened to destroy what they’d built.
The series is inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. If you don’t know how this story ends, I’ll just say: bring tissues. It’s been compared to The Crown for its examination of how public scrutiny destroys private love — except with better fashion and worse outcomes.

Is Love Story Kid-Friendly?
No. The series carries a TV-MA rating and deals with mature themes throughout.
Content includes sexual content and partial nudity, substance use, intense media harassment and paparazzi scenes, emotional distress, marital conflict, and the depiction of real-life deaths. The story ends with the 1999 plane crash that killed John, Carolyn, and her sister Lauren — this is not light viewing.
