WhatsApp Status music clips are getting twice as long

WhatsApp is rolling out music clips of up to 30 seconds for Status updates on Android and iOS, doubling the previous 15-second limit.

The change adds a duration picker to WhatsApp’s music editor. They can choose a clip of up to 30 seconds when adding a song to a photo Status or when sharing a music-only Status. The feature is rolling out gradually, so the option may not appear on every account yet.

9to5Mac reports that the longer limit is already appearing for some users on both Android and iOS. WABetaInfo’s report identifies compatible versions as WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.36.1 and WhatsApp for iOS 26.35.72.

The duration picker also offers shorter clips, rather than forcing every Status to run for the full 30 seconds. That is useful for a specific chorus or a song that gets to the point before the half-minute mark.

When will the longer WhatsApp Status music clips arrive?

WhatsApp is enabling the feature through a server-side rollout. Updating the app may help, but it does not guarantee immediate access; users will need to wait for the option to be enabled on their account.

For UAE users, no separate local launch date has been confirmed in the available reports. The same gradual rollout applies unless Meta announces a regional schedule.

This is another small change to WhatsApp Status, alongside the platform’s earlier music-sharing tools and recent group features. The longer limit should make Status a little less selective about where a song begins.
