The iPhone 17 is here with its faster chip and camera upgrades. But even Apple’s latest device doesn’t hide everything you do online. That’s why searches for VPN for iPhone spike every September.

A VPN adds what Apple can’t: privacy across every app and network. If you’re upgrading, here’s why you should install one right away—and which providers work best.

What is a VPN on iPhone 17?

A VPN creates a secure tunnel between your iPhone and the internet.

  • Hides your IP address
  • Encrypts browsing and app traffic
  • Secures connections on Wi-Fi, 5G, or home broadband
  • Let’s you connect from anywhere in the world

With the iPhone 17’s performance, VPN apps like NordVPN or ExpressVPN run smoothly without slowing you down.

Why use a VPN on iPhone 17?

The iPhone 17 has great built-in features, but a VPN closes privacy gaps.

  • Protects against hackers on public Wi-Fi
  • Keeps apps like messaging secure
  • Let’s you access home-country apps while abroad
  • Cuts down on personalised ad tracking

Owning a premium device means protecting your data just as carefully.

Best VPNs for iPhone 17

These are the top VPNs worth installing on your iPhone 17.

NordVPN

  • Extensive server network across 165+ locations
  • Kill Switch, Threat Protection Pro, and specialised servers
  • Verified no-logs policy

Strong choice for security and features.

ExpressVPN

  • Servers in 105 countries
  • Fast speeds for streaming and browsing
  • TrustedServer tech for added privacy

Excellent for streaming on the go.

Surfshark

  • One subscription covers unlimited devices
  • CleanWeb blocks ads and malware
  • Double encryption with MultiHop

Best value if you need to protect multiple devices.

Proton VPN

  • Swiss-based with strict privacy laws
  • Open-source, independently audited
  • Free plan with unlimited data

Great for privacy-first users.

How to set up a VPN on iPhone 17

Two methods are available: app setup or manual setup.

  • Using an app:
    1. Download VPN from the App Store
    2. Create an account or log in
    3. Allow VPN configurations
    4. Tap connect
  • Manual setup:
    1. Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
    2. Add VPN Configuration
    3. Select type (IKEv2, IPSec, L2TP)
    4. Enter provider details
    5. Save and toggle on

Most users go with the app—it’s faster and less technical.

VPN vs Apple’s iCloud Private Relay

Apple’s iCloud Private Relay hides your IP but only in Safari and certain apps.

  • Limited coverage
  • No control over server choice
  • No extras like malware blocking or specialised servers

A VPN is a full-device solution, making it a better partner for your iPhone 17.

The Lego Game Boy set isn’t meant to actually pl The Lego Game Boy set isn’t meant to actually play games. But that didn’t stop Natalie The Nerd.

She modded her $59.99 Lego kit to boot up real cartridges like Pokémon Red and 1989’s Tetris, and even got the screen to display the game intros. The buttons are fully pressable.

It’s not for sale, but it does show how far a little creativity (and a lot of soldering) can go.

Meanwhile, the official Lego version just includes fake cartridges for Mario and Zelda and a lenticular “screen” that makes it look like you’re playing.

Real or fake, one thing’s for sure: this set hits peak nostalgia.

Sora, OpenAI’s new invite-only video platform, i Sora, OpenAI’s new invite-only video platform, is already pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and what’s ethical.

You’re not allowed to deepfake real, living public figures on the app (unless they’ve given permission via the Cameo feature)…
But dead celebrities? That’s a different story.

AI-generated videos of Michael Jackson, Tupac, Malcolm X, and even Bob Ross are circulating on Sora and OpenAI says that’s allowed. Historical figures are fair game.

There are also AI versions of fictional icons like Mario and SpongeBob popping up, which could open the door to future IP lawsuits.

Every video gets watermarked, but that doesn’t stop the unease. Not everyone is okay with seeing Malcolm X in a video doing something he never would’ve approved of.
