Apple's new Studio Display XDR starts at Dhs 13,499 in the UAE — nearly half the price of the Pro Display XDR it replaces, with 2000 nits of brightness, 120Hz, and mini-LED. Here's what you're getting.

Apple Studio Display XDR UAE Price Starts at Dhs 13,499: Specs, 120Hz, and How It Compares to Pro Display XDR and Studio Display

Apple just killed the Pro Display XDR.

Its replacement, the Studio Display XDR, delivers 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate, and mini-LED backlighting with over 2,300 local dimming zones — all in a 27-inch 5K panel. It starts at Dhs 13,499 in the UAE, nearly half the Dhs 22,999 that the outgoing Pro Display XDR commanded. And unlike the Pro Display XDR, it comes with a stand included.

Pre-orders for all March 2026 Apple products open March 4 — see every product, price, and release date in our full UAE launch guide. Availability starts March 11 at Apple Store, iSTYLE, and authorised resellers across the UAE.

Apple also refreshed the standard Studio Display alongside it. Same 27-inch 5K panel, same 60Hz, but now with a better camera, deeper bass, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. It starts at Dhs 6,499.

What makes the Studio Display XDR worth Dhs 13,499?

The headline feature is the mini-LED backlight system. With 2,304 local dimming zones, the Studio Display XDR can produce deep blacks alongside blinding whites without the haloing that plagued earlier local dimming implementations. Apple claims a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio — the same number they quoted for the Pro Display XDR, but now achieved with a more advanced implementation that virtually eliminates blooming.

For video editors and colourists, the colour gamut support is the real story. The Studio Display XDR supports P3 wide colour and Adobe RGB from the same default preset, so you don't need to switch reference modes when hopping between video and print workflows. Apple also claims more than 80% Rec. 2020 coverage for HDR colour grading — not full coverage, but enough to give you a reliable preview of how content will look on consumer HDR displays.

The 120Hz refresh rate with Adaptive Sync is a welcome addition that the Pro Display XDR never had. The variable rate spans 47Hz to 120Hz, dynamically adjusting to content. For video editors scrubbing through timelines in DaVinci Resolve or Premiere, the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz is immediately noticeable. For 3D artists working in Houdini or Blender, smoother viewport navigation makes a tangible difference during long sessions.

Apple has also added DICOM medical imaging presets for diagnostic radiology, pending FDA calibration tool approval — a niche but significant feature for healthcare professionals in the UAE.

What about the updated Studio Display?

The standard Studio Display keeps the same 27-inch 5K Retina panel at 600 nits and 60Hz. Apple didn't upgrade the display itself. What they did upgrade:

The camera gets a major improvement. The new 12MP Center Stage camera now supports Desk View — the same overhead perspective feature found on iPad — making it far more useful for video calls where you need to show documents or products on your desk.

The six-speaker sound system now delivers 30% deeper bass than the previous generation, thanks to four force-cancelling woofers. The three-microphone array for video calls appears unchanged.

The biggest practical upgrade is Thunderbolt 5. The original Studio Display shipped with Thunderbolt 3. The new model includes two Thunderbolt 5 ports, enabling daisy-chaining of up to four Studio Display units for a combined total of nearly 60 million pixels. It also charges compatible MacBooks at up to 96W through the included Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable — fast enough for a 14-inch MacBook Pro.

Two additional USB-C ports handle peripherals and charging for other devices.

At Dhs 6,499, the Studio Display remains a solid choice for anyone who doesn't need HDR, high refresh rates, or colour-critical accuracy. It pairs well with MacBook Air and Mac mini setups where the screen is primarily used for productivity, coding, photo editing, and general creative work.

The comparison makes it clear: the Studio Display XDR is better than the Pro Display XDR in almost every measurable way except screen size and resolution. You lose 5 inches and the jump from 5K to 6K, but you gain 400 more nits of peak brightness, 120Hz (vs 60Hz), a camera, speakers, microphones, and Thunderbolt 5 — all for Dhs 9,500 less.

For anyone who's been eyeing the Pro Display XDR for video work or colour grading, the Studio Display XDR makes it obsolete. The only reason to prefer the larger display is if your workflow genuinely demands 32 inches of 6K real estate — post-production houses working in DaVinci Resolve with multiple scopes open, for example.

Who should buy which display?

Studio Display (Dhs 6,499) is the right choice if you're a developer, writer, photographer, or general creative professional who wants a sharp, colour-accurate 5K screen with excellent built-in audio and camera. You don't need HDR, 120Hz, or broadcast-grade colour accuracy. Pair it with a MacBook Air, Mac mini, or Mac Studio for a clean single-cable setup.

Studio Display XDR (Dhs 13,499) is for video editors, colourists, 3D artists, motion graphics designers, and print professionals who need HDR monitoring, Adobe RGB accuracy, and the smoothness of 120Hz for timeline scrubbing and viewport work. If you're editing HDR content in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, or Final Cut Pro and need to see what you're actually delivering, this is the display. It's also the new default for any post-production setup in Dubai's growing media industry.

Neither display is ideal if you need more than 27 inches. At this price point, you might consider third-party options like the ASUS ProArt PA32UCXR (32-inch, mini-LED, 4K) or wait for Apple to potentially release a larger Studio Display in the future.

Accessories

Apple announced matching peripherals alongside the display refresh:

Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad is available in black and silver (Dhs 999 with USB-C). Magic Trackpad comes in black and silver (Dhs 599). Magic Mouse is also available in both finishes (Dhs 449) — and yes, it still charges from the bottom.

The Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable included with both displays is 1 metre. Apple sells a 3-metre version separately if you need more reach.
