Gearing up for iPhone Fold? Samsung Display Launches MONTFLEX branded Foldable OLED Technology

Samsung Display has officially announced MONTFLEX, a brand-new foldable OLED display line that promises to set the standard for premium foldable technology. The unveiling will take place at K-Display 2025 — Korea’s premier display exhibition — running from August 7 to 9 at COEX Hall A in Seoul.

The name MONTFLEX is inspired by the French word mont (meaning mountain), symbolising the pinnacle of foldable display innovation. It represents Samsung Display’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of folding technology and delivering the ultimate in design, durability, and user experience.

What MONTFLEX Stands For

Each letter in MONT highlights a core strength of Samsung’s foldable OLED:

  • MMechanical Durability: Exceptional folding reliability, withstanding up to 500,000 folds without performance loss.
  • OOpto-mechanically Flat: Produces a minimal crease, maintaining vivid display quality.
  • NNarrow Bezels: Maximises screen real estate for immersive viewing.
  • TThin & Lightweight: Delivers a sleeker, more portable foldable design.

A Track Record of Foldable Innovation

Since entering mass production in 2019, Samsung Display has been at the forefront of foldable OLED technology. It was the first to introduce UTG™ (Ultra Thin Glass) for enhanced screen durability and LEAD polariser-free technology for improved brightness and energy efficiency.

The latest MONTFLEX panels are slimmer and lighter than previous models, while still delivering unmatched resilience. The newly developed shock-resistant structure ensures longevity, making it ideal for next-gen foldable devices.

Why It Matters

With MONTFLEX, Samsung Display isn’t just releasing another foldable panel—it’s creating a dedicated brand identity for foldable innovation. This branding move is expected to strengthen its position in the growing foldable device market and communicate the unique value of its technology to both consumers and manufacturers.

It might also be the screen that the rumoured iPhone Fold could use.

When and Where to See MONTFLEX™

The public debut of MONTFLEX will take place at K-Display 2025, from August 7 to 9, in Seoul, Korea, where Samsung Display will showcase the technology to global partners, media, and industry insiders.
