Two models, two playstyles
ASUS is selling two trims. The base model aims for portability and value. The X version targets longer sessions and headroom.
- ROG Xbox Ally (RC73YA)
AMD Ryzen Z2 A, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 60Wh battery - ROG Xbox Ally X (RC73XA)
AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme with NPU, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 80Wh battery
In short, the Ally covers everyday portable PC gaming on a budget. The Ally X steps up CPU/GPU resources, RAM, storage and battery, so it should handle bigger libraries and longer play without hugging a charger. Both run full Windows, so you’re not stuck in a walled garden for stores or mods.
AI touches and Xbox optimisation
The Ally X includes a dedicated NPU to enable upcoming features. Two examples called out:
- Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) for smarter upscaling
- AI Highlight Reels that auto-capture key moments
The Ally family was co-developed with Xbox, with handheld-friendly optimisations like faster shader delivery and ready-to-go controls for thousands of PC titles. For UAE users, this pairs naturally with Game Pass and remote installs via the Xbox app.
Display and I/O basics (both)
Both units share the same 7-inch 1080p IPS screen at 120Hz with FreeSync Premium and Gorilla Glass with DXC anti-reflection. You also get Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, a UHS-II microSD slot, and a 3.5mm jack.
- Screen: 7″ FHD, 120Hz, FreeSync Premium, Gorilla Glass + DXC
- Wireless: Wi-Fi 6E (2×2), BT 5.4
- Storage slot: UHS-II microSD
- Audio: 3.5mm combo jack
Ports differ slightly: Ally X adds USB4 with DP 2.1 and PD 3.0 alongside a second USB-C; the base Ally carries two USB-C (Gen 2) with DP 2.1 and PD 3.0.
If you’re thinking expandable storage, we’ve also covered fast cards and standards for handhelds like Ally and Steam Deck in our microSD Express explainer and a ready-to-buy 1TB microSD Express card guide.
Battery, size and carry weight
The Ally X bumps the battery from 60Wh to 80Wh. Dimensions match; the X is heavier.
- Ally X: 80Wh, 715g
- Ally: 60Wh, 670g
- Both: 290.8 × 121.5 × 50.7 mm
The bigger pack and extra RAM/storage make the X the choice for longer trips, flights, and sofa sessions. The standard Ally stays lighter and cheaper for commuters who still want high-refresh play.
Warranty, loyalty and official resources
ASUS notes a local extended warranty offer and a loyalty scheme:
- ASUS Perfect Warranty: product registration within 90 days to access accidental coverage (valued up to AED 500). Link provided in the press note.
- ROG Elite: earn points and perks after registering products — ROG Elite programme

These are handy if you buy early and want extra cover and perks on accessories later.
