RØDE shrank the RØDECaster studio but kept the power

RØDE has a smaller, cheaper version of its video-first production console. The RØDECaster Video S takes the brains of the flagship model and squeezes them into a compact unit with HDMI switching, a proper audio mixer, NDI, APHEX effects and ISO recording.

It’s aimed at solo creators, video podcasts and streamers who want fewer boxes and cables without giving up control. Pricing is US$499, with global pre-orders open under embargo timings stated by RØDE.

What the RØDECaster Video S is

It’s an all-in-one console for switching video, mixing audio, streaming and recording in one box.

The device combines a multi-input video switcher with a full audio chain, so you can cut cameras, mix mics and add graphics without juggling apps. The smaller chassis runs the same octa-core engine found in the flagship model, and the unit is built in RØDE’s Sydney facilities.

Video I/O and switching

Three HDMI inputs with scene buttons and one HDMI out cover basic multicam. 

• 3× 1080p HDMI in with auto frame-rate conversion
• 1× configurable HDMI out for programme, preview or multiview
• Up to four video sources total and five custom scenes
• USB-C for webcams or RØDE USB audio devices

For desk-based shows or tutorials, three HDMI inputs handle cameras or a laptop feed, while a configurable HDMI out can switch between programme, preview or a multiview. You can define up to five layered scenes and switch at the button level, or expand with a webcam over USB-C. 

Audio chain and processing

Two Neutrik combo inputs, dual wireless receivers and APHEX cover most mic setups.

• Dual built-in Series IV receivers for RØDE wireless mics

Workflow and control

Physical buttons, a 2-inch touchscreen and an “Inspect” tool aim to cut mistakes.

• “Inspect” for safe preview and quick configuration

The layout borrows from broadcast switchers: map sources, map scenes, then assign keys for media, overlays or transitions. The touchscreen handles levels and settings, while Inspect gives you a safe preview to avoid cutting to the wrong input.

Automation, streaming and recording

Auto-switching follows the active speaker; recording can capture isolated feeds.

• NDI in/out, plus Dual Cam with the free RØDE Capture iOS app

Solo operators get dynamic cuts without touching the switcher, and teams can still take manual control. Direct streaming covers YouTube and Twitch, while ISO recording targets clean edits later. There’s NDI for network cameras and a Dual Cam mode to turn an iPhone into a wireless two-angle source, handy for interviews or product demos.
