Relax, Albion Awaits: Fable Devs Shut Down GTA 6 Delay Rumors

If you spent the weekend stressing that your long-awaited return to Albion was being pushed back because of a certain Rockstar behemoth, you can officially exhale. Playground Games has stepped in to squash the rumors: Fable is still very much on track for Autumn 2026.

The panic started circulating after Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reported that the Fable reboot had been delayed internally. The claim: Microsoft was getting cold feet about dropping their massive fantasy RPG too close to Grand Theft Auto 6, which is slated to dominate the world this November. Grubb suggested that to avoid the GTA shockwave, Fable could slip into December, or worse, get pushed entirely into 2027.

Given the industry's history of developers famously clearing the runway whenever Rockstar announces a launch date, the rumor held some weight. Nobody wants their passion project to be overshadowed by the Vice City hype train.

But it turns out, the heroes at Playground Games aren't easily intimidated.

In a refreshing turn of events, the official Fable X (formerly Twitter) account responded directly to a fan who was hyping up a screenshot of the game. After the rumors began making the rounds, the account dropped a very clear message:

It’s a massive relief for the Xbox community. After years of waiting for the legendary Lionhead franchise to make its glorious, cheeky return, the idea of waiting until 2027 was a tough pill to swallow.

While an internal reshuffle of a few weeks might still happen behind closed doors to give GTA 6 some breathing room, the official word is that Fable will still hit its promised Autumn 2026 window for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.

So, put down the pitchforks and keep your boots polished. We’re still kicking chickens this Autumn.
