Monster Hunter Wilds gets crucial PC patch fixing DLC performance issues

Capcom has released a PC patch for Monster Hunter Wilds to fix a performance bug that caused FPS drops in specific areas, according to the company's patch notes. The bug was related to the game checking for unclaimed DLC content, contrary to initial community theories about DLC quantity affecting performance.

What the patch fixes

According to Capcom, the performance issue only occurred around the Support Desk at Base Camp or Grand Hub when players had unclaimed content. The company's testing confirmed that CPU load increased in these areas due to 'claimed content status check processes'.

'After receiving user reports, our internal testing confirmed that CPU load could increase around the Support Desk at Base Camp or the Grand Hub,' Capcom stated. 'This is due to claimed content status check processes to notify the player if there is unclaimed content in the Support Desk, as indicated by an exclamation point.'

Capcom clarified that the number of DLCs owned doesn't affect performance, contradicting earlier community theories. The FPS drops depend on whether you have unclaimed content and your CPU's performance capabilities.

New features and improvements

The 2GB patch introduces several enhancements beyond the bug fix. A new CPU tab in the Options menu allows players to adjust settings related to CPU load, while graphics settings have been expanded with new categories.

The Volumetric Fog setting now offers five levels instead of two, with the previous 'High' renamed to 'Highest' and new options including Medium, Low, and Lowest. Texture streaming has been adjusted to improve visual quality while reducing VRAM usage.

The High Resolution Texture Pack has been revised, requiring a 31GB re-download but reducing the overall package size by approximately 45GB compared to the previous version.

Driver requirements and future updates

For optimal performance, Capcom recommends updating to NVIDIA GeForce driver version 581.57 or newer, and AMD Radeon drivers 25.9.1 or 25.9.2. The company warns against using AMD Radeon drivers version 25.10.2 and higher due to identified issues.

A further update is planned for 18 February 2026 to improve stability and performance across all platforms. Capcom is working on measures to reduce GPU processing load by adding quality levels to 3D model polygon meshes, which should help reduce processing load for distant objects.

This follows other recent Capcom updates, as the publisher continues addressing performance concerns across its PC releases.
