Meta has announced Meta VR Glasses, a roughly 100-gram virtual reality device launching in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99 in the US. The glasses move computing, storage and the battery into a separate puck, leaving the wearable itself to handle the display, sensors and passthrough view.
The announcement comes from Meta, with TechCrunch reporting the same starting price. 9to5Google describes the product as a slimmer, high-end alternative to the Quest form factor. Meta has not announced a UAE price, local release date or regional availability.
Meta VR Glasses put the computer in your pocket
Meta says the glasses are five times lighter than Meta Quest 3. The magnesium-alloy frame connects to a separate compute-and-battery puck over an optical tether. The puck can clip to a pocket or bag, although the cable means this is still a two-part system rather than a completely untethered pair of glasses.
The puck provides up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback and supports 45W fast charging. Meta has not published a complete battery estimate for gaming, PC work or mixed use, so the three-hour figure should be treated as a media-playback claim rather than an all-day rating.
The glasses keep their sides open and use passthrough cameras so the wearer can remain aware of nearby surroundings. Meta is presenting that as a comfort and safety benefit for flights, work and home viewing, but the announcement does not provide a field-of-view measurement, lens-adjustment range, prescription-lens details or a final list of accessibility options.

A 5K micro-OLED display aimed at films and work
Meta calls the screen a 5K Infinite Display, built from micro-OLED panels with 37 pixels per degree. The company says the compact pancake lenses are designed to make text easier to read, which matters if the glasses are expected to replace a laptop display during a flight rather than merely show a film.
The glasses support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, with spatial audio built into the frames. Meta’s AI agent is integrated into the operating system and can respond to voice commands, eye input and natural hand gestures. Those inputs can open apps, start films, adjust a workspace or search for information without a controller.
The glasses can also connect to a Mac or Windows PC wirelessly or through USB-C. Meta says full-colour passthrough will keep the keyboard, desk, phone and surrounding room visible while the virtual screens sit in front of the user. The company has not yet detailed resolution, refresh rate, supported desktop modes or the performance limits of the USB-C connection.
Disney, IMAX and sports are doing the heavy lifting
Meta is positioning the device as a personal cinema and portable workstation as much as a gaming product. It says the glasses are the first VR device certified for IMAX’s expanded-format content, giving users access to selected films in the wider aspect ratio from home.
Disney is preparing 3D films and immersive environments for the platform. Meta says Disney+ subscribers in select countries will be able to watch titles including The Avengers and Black Panther in 3D from November, with environments based on locations such as Tatooine, Avengers Tower and the Scare Floor.
At launch, Meta says users will have access to VR versions of films including Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope through the Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app. The company also says thousands of film titles will be available internationally by the glasses’ launch, though the exact catalogue will vary by market and service.
Sports are another part of the pitch. Meta says ESPN will offer 8K streaming and 180-degree views, beginning with college football on Quest, while partnerships with MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports and UFC are expected to produce more than 100 immersive live events each year after the glasses launch. Those figures describe Meta’s planned partner line-up, not a confirmed UAE sports catalogue.
Gaming, PC connections and hologram calls
The device will have access to the wider Meta Quest catalogue and support Touch Plus controllers. Meta says more than 75 games will be playable with hand gestures at launch, while Xbox Cloud Gaming will let users stream hundreds of games with a Bluetooth gamepad. A handheld gaming device can also connect over wireless or USB-C for a larger virtual screen.
Meta is also promising hologram-style video calls. The glasses will create a real-time digital version of the wearer, including facial expressions and reactions, with spatial audio placing the caller in front of the user. Meta says the feature will work with calling apps including WhatsApp and Zoom, although it has not shown final hardware requirements or explained how much battery the effect uses.
Release date, price and UAE availability
Meta VR Glasses are due in Spring 2027, but Meta has not supplied an exact day or month. The confirmed US starting price is $1,299.99 before any taxes, accessories or market-specific changes. There are no preorders or UAE pricing details in the announcement.
