MacBook Neo UAE Price Starts at Dhs 2,599: Apple's Most Affordable Laptop Gets A18 Pro, Four Colours, and All-Day Battery

Apple's cheapest Mac ever starts at Dhs 2,599 in the UAE. Here's what you get — and what Apple cut to hit that price.

The MacBook Neo is the most significant shift in Apple's laptop lineup in over a decade. Instead of an M-series chip, it runs on the A18 Pro — the same silicon that powered last year's iPhone 16 Pro — making it the first MacBook to use a mobile phone processor. The result is a genuinely affordable Mac that runs full macOS Tahoe, supports Apple Intelligence, and lasts up to 16 hours on a single charge.

Pre-orders are open now, with availability starting Wednesday, March 11 at Apple Store, Sharaf DG, Jumbo Electronics, and other UAE retailers.

For a complete overview of everything Apple announced this week — including MacBook Air M5, MacBook Pro M5 Pro/Max, iPhone 17e, iPad Air M4, and the Studio Display XDR — see every product, price, and release date in our full UAE launch guide.

MacBook Neo price in UAE

Model Storage Touch ID Price (Dhs)
MacBook Neo 256GB No 2,599
MacBook Neo 512GB Yes 2,999

That's not a typo. A brand-new Mac laptop for under Dhs 3,000. For context, the cheapest MacBook Air M5 starts at Dhs 4,599 — nearly double the price. The MacBook Neo undercuts every Mac in the current lineup by a significant margin.

The 512GB model is worth the Dhs 400 premium for two reasons: double the storage (obviously) and Touch ID for biometric login and Apple Pay. The base model has neither — you'll type your password every time you open the lid.

Education pricing starts at $499 in the US. UAE education pricing has not been confirmed at the time of writing, but should appear on Apple's education store shortly.

Colour options: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. The colours extend to the Magic Keyboard in lighter shades, making this the most colourful MacBook Apple has ever shipped.

The MacBook Air M5 is the better computer in every measurable way. Double the RAM, double the GPU cores, Thunderbolt 4, MagSafe, Wi-Fi 7, a better camera, and two more hours of battery life. Nobody's arguing otherwise.

But the MacBook Neo costs Dhs 2,000 less. For a university student writing essays in Google Docs, a small business owner running invoicing software, or a parent who just needs a laptop for web browsing and FaceTime calls, the Neo does everything they need. The A18 Pro is a genuinely capable chip — it benchmarks close to the M1 in multi-core performance and trades blows with the M4 in single-core tasks.

What does the A18 Pro chip actually deliver?

Let's address the elephant in the room: yes, this is a phone chip in a laptop. No, that doesn't make it slow.

The A18 Pro's 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU are built on the same 3nm process as Apple's latest silicon. Apple claims the MacBook Neo is up to 50% faster for everyday tasks like web browsing and up to 3x faster for on-device AI workloads compared to the bestselling PC laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor.

The 16-core Neural Engine supports Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools, Clean Up in Photos, Live Translation, and Siri with on-device processing. The 8GB of unified memory is the minimum for Apple Intelligence — it'll work, but don't expect to run large local AI models.

Where you'll feel the A18 Pro's limits: heavy multitasking with 20+ browser tabs, professional photo editing in Lightroom, or any serious video work. The 8GB RAM ceiling is real. For those workflows, the MacBook Air M5 with 16GB exists for a reason.

For everything else — web browsing, document editing, streaming, email, light photo work, casual gaming — the A18 Pro handles it without breaking a sweat. And because it's fanless, it does it in complete silence.

What did Apple cut to hit Dhs 2,599?

Here's where honesty matters. Apple made real compromises to reach this price, and you should know exactly what they are before buying.

8GB RAM, not 16GB. The biggest trade-off. Every other current Mac ships with at least 16GB. The Neo's 8GB is enough for everyday tasks but will bottleneck heavy multitasking and limits how many apps you can keep open simultaneously.

No MagSafe. The MacBook Neo charges via USB-C — both ports support charging. There's no magnetic MagSafe connector, which means no trip-proof cable detachment and you lose a port while charging.

No Thunderbolt. The two USB-C ports are standard USB — not Thunderbolt 4. This limits external display options and data transfer speeds compared to the MacBook Air.

Touch ID only on the 512GB model. The base Dhs 2,599 model has no biometric authentication. You'll type your password to log in and can't use fingerprint authentication for Apple Pay.

1080p camera, not 12MP Center Stage. The FaceTime camera is serviceable but a generation behind. No Center Stage automatic framing, no ultra-wide sensor.

Wi-Fi 6E, not Wi-Fi 7. No Apple N1 wireless chip. Wi-Fi 6E is still fast and perfectly adequate for most UAE home networks, but it's not future-proofed the way the Air is.

Dual speakers, not four. Sound quality will be noticeably thinner than the MacBook Air's four-speaker system, though Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support partially compensate.

None of these are deal-breakers for the target audience. But if you're comparing feature-for-feature against the MacBook Air, you need to understand what the Dhs 2,000 savings actually costs you.

Who is the MacBook Neo actually for?

Apple describes the Neo as being built for "students, families, small business owners, new Mac users, and more." That's marketing speak, but it's accurate.

Students get a full macOS laptop with a proper keyboard, trackpad, and all-day battery for less than most mid-range iPads with a keyboard case. It runs desktop apps — not iPad versions — which matters for research papers, group projects, and anything that benefits from a real file system.

First-time Mac users coming from a Chromebook or budget Windows laptop get the full Apple ecosystem experience: iMessage, AirDrop, Handoff, iPhone Mirroring, and seamless iCloud integration. The setup process even lets you transfer settings from an iPhone.

Families get a shared laptop that's durable (aluminium build, not plastic), secure (macOS's built-in protections), and won't feel obsolete in three years thanks to Apple's software update track record.

Small business owners get a capable machine for invoicing, email, video calls, and basic productivity at a price point that makes it easy to equip a small team.

The MacBook Neo is not for developers, video editors, photographers, designers, or anyone whose workflow demands more than 8GB of RAM. Those users need the MacBook Air M5 at minimum.

Should you buy the MacBook Neo?

If you've been waiting for an affordable way into the Mac ecosystem, this is it. The MacBook Neo delivers the core Mac experience — macOS, Apple Intelligence, the Magic Keyboard, a gorgeous Liquid Retina display, and genuine all-day battery life — at a price that was unthinkable from Apple even a year ago.

The key question is whether the Dhs 2,000 you save over the MacBook Air M5 is worth the compromises. For most casual users, the answer is yes. The A18 Pro handles everyday computing with ease, the 13-inch display is sharp and vibrant, and 16 hours of battery means you can leave the charger at home.

If you're on the fence between the 256GB and 512GB models, spend the extra Dhs 400. Touch ID alone justifies the upgrade, and 256GB fills up faster than you'd expect once you've installed a few apps, stored some photos, and let macOS updates accumulate.

MacBook Neo launches in the UAE on March 11. Pre-orders are open now, starting at Dhs 2,599.

MacBook Neo FAQ

How much does the MacBook Neo cost in the UAE? The MacBook Neo starts at Dhs 2,599 for the 256GB model and Dhs 2,999 for the 512GB model with Touch ID.

When does the MacBook Neo launch in the UAE? Pre-orders are open now. It goes on sale Wednesday, March 11 at Apple Store, Sharaf DG, Jumbo Electronics, and authorised resellers across the UAE.

What colours does the MacBook Neo come in? Blush, indigo, silver, and citrus — all with colour-matched Magic Keyboards in lighter shades.

Does the MacBook Neo have an M-series chip? No. It uses the A18 Pro, the same chip from the iPhone 16 Pro. This is the first MacBook to use a mobile phone processor instead of an M-series chip. It delivers strong performance for everyday tasks but doesn't match the M5 in the MacBook Air for demanding workloads.

Does the MacBook Neo support Apple Intelligence? Yes. The A18 Pro with 8GB unified memory meets the minimum requirements for Apple Intelligence, including Writing Tools, Clean Up in Photos, Live Translation, and enhanced Siri.

Does the MacBook Neo have Touch ID? Only the 512GB model (Dhs 2,999) includes Touch ID. The base 256GB model (Dhs 2,599) does not have biometric authentication.

Does the MacBook Neo have MagSafe? No. It charges via USB-C through either of its two USB-C ports. There is no MagSafe magnetic charging connector.

Can the MacBook Neo run pro apps like Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro? Technically yes — macOS Tahoe runs all compatible Mac apps. But with 8GB of RAM, you'll hit performance limits quickly with demanding creative workflows. The MacBook Neo is best suited for everyday productivity, not professional content creation.

How does the MacBook Neo compare to a Chromebook? The MacBook Neo runs full macOS with desktop-class apps, Apple Intelligence, and seamless integration with iPhone. Unlike Chromebooks, it doesn't depend on an internet connection for core functionality. At Dhs 2,599, it's competitively priced against premium Chromebooks while offering significantly more capability.

Is 8GB of RAM enough in 2026? For web browsing, document editing, streaming, email, and light multitasking — yes. For running more than 15-20 browser tabs simultaneously, professional photo editing, or video work — no. If your workflow demands more memory, the MacBook Air M5 starts with 16GB.
