Is Marvel’s 2042 roadmap a confirmed slate?

Speaking to Chinese outlet Watching Hollywood during a tour of Shanghai, the Marvel Studios president said the company had been “planning movies all the way up to 2042”. He immediately supplied the necessary reality check, asking whether Marvel would reach that year and whether the same projects would ultimately be made.
The comments, covered by our sister site IGN Middle East, reveal the scale of Marvel’s internal thinking rather than 16 years of guaranteed films. Look, a roadmap reaching 2042 is impressive. It is also a roadmap drawn by a studio that readily admits the route may change.
The firm release picture currently ends with Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027. Feige positions this December’s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars as a conclusion for storylines extending back beyond the MCU, including arcs involving original X-Men characters.
Why are the X-Men central to Marvel’s future?
The X-Men are intended to anchor Marvel’s post-Secret Wars era, according to Feige.
Feige calls the planned era the “Mutant Saga” and describes the X-Men as a universe capable of supporting a multi-stage story. His emphasis goes beyond Wolverine and the original team, suggesting Marvel wants mutants to provide the foundation for several connected films rather than one reboot followed by crossed fingers.

Secret Wars is supposed to establish what Feige calls a “streamlined, simplified, single universe”. He has separately said that the MCU will not formally reboot after Secret Wars, making this sound closer to continuity being reorganised than everything being erased. Marvel wants a cleaner entry point for new viewers while retaining selected familiar elements, which is sensible after years spent asking audiences to keep several universes and decades of casting in their heads.
When could Miles Morales appear in live action?
Feige says a live-action Miles Morales is planned for after Sony’s animated Spider-Verse series ends.
He pointed to Electro’s line about a Black Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home as a nod towards Miles, then said a future live-action Spider-Man film is destined to add the character. That is a statement of intent, without a title, cast, production date, or release date attached.
Feige also said producer Amy Pascal is working on future Spider-Man stories and that discussions have covered what the next two, three, four, and five films might explore. Tom Holland has already discussed wanting to mentor Miles Morales as the next Spider-Man, so the idea has support from both sides of the mask.
The timing still depends on the animated Spider-Verse series concluding. Until Marvel and Sony make a formal announcement, Miles’ live-action arrival belongs in the promising-plan column rather than the release-calendar column.
