Huawei has launched the Huawei Mate XT 2 in China, giving its tri-fold phone a new inward-folding design, a 10.2-inch tablet-sized screen and a starting price of CNY 19,999 (about $2,800). The Verge reports that the display folds inwards to keep both sides protected when the phone is closed.
Huawei Mate XT 2 changes the foldable design
The first Mate XT folded outwards, leaving parts of its flexible screen exposed. The Huawei Mate XT 2 folds both sides of the panel inwards instead. When fully open, its 10.2-inch OLED display runs at 3K resolution, while the outer screen measures 6.5 inches when folded.
The phone is 3.5mm thick when unfolded and weighs 299g. It carries IP58 and IP59 dust and water-resistance ratings, according to Gadgets 360. The display also gains an optional privacy mode that narrows its viewing angles, although Huawei reserves that feature for the 1TB version with 16GB of RAM.
The Kirin 9050 Pro powers the phone, paired with 16GB of RAM. Huawei claims the chip delivers up to 46 per cent higher performance than the Kirin 9030 Pro. The phone has a 5,600mAh typical-capacity battery, 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The rear camera system combines a 50MP main camera with variable aperture and OIS, a 40MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera and a multi-spectral colour sensor. Huawei is also selling 512GB and 1TB versions, plus a 2TB Collector Edition.
Huawei Mate XT 2 price and UAE availability
China pricing starts at CNY 19,999 for 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 512GB version costs CNY 21,999, the 1TB model costs CNY 23,999, and the 1TB privacy-display version costs CNY 24,999. The 2TB Collector Edition is priced at CNY 29,999. These are Chinese prices, not UAE prices.
The earlier Huawei Mate XT 2 launch-date report on tbreak covered the announcement before the full launch and did not have these confirmed specifications. Huawei’s Kirin 9050 Pro launch coverage on tbreak also predates the phone’s launch.
Huawei’s UAE storefront lists the original Mate XT, but no Mate XT 2 product page or UAE price was found when checked. The company has not confirmed an international release for the new model.
