Huawei launches Kirin 9050 Pro chip with 42% performance uplift

Huawei says the new Kirin 9050 Pro chip gives the Huawei Mate XT 2 a 42% overall performance increase over its predecessor. The processor debuts in Huawei’s new tri-fold phone, which launched in China on September 7 alongside a redesigned inward-folding mechanism.

Breaking The News reports that the Mate XT 2 uses the Kirin 9050 Pro with HarmonyOS 7.0 and is available with up to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. The report also says preorders have passed one million units. Huawei’s own launch material confirms the Mate XT 2 launch, while Huawei Central’s earlier report had identified the Kirin 9050 Pro as a pre-launch possibility.

Kirin 9050 Pro brings a claimed 42% performance gain

The 42% figure is Huawei’s comparison with the previous Mate XT. The available launch report does not break that result into CPU, graphics or AI scores, so it should be treated as an overall company claim rather than a standalone benchmark result.

The chip is also linked to Huawei’s new LogicFolding architecture and on-device multimodal AI support. Huawei says its Maleoon graphics platform adds ray-tracing capability, although independent testing will be needed to show how the new processor compares with current Qualcomm and MediaTek silicon.

Huawei Mate XT 2 changes the foldable design

The Mate XT 2 uses two inward-folding hinges and a dedicated cover screen, replacing the outward-folding arrangement described for the earlier Mate XT. The new design should protect more of the flexible display when the phone is closed, but it also adds another hinge and moving part.
