Rockstar Games has broken its silence on the GTA 6 leaks, calling the flood of gameplay footage that swept social media this week “heartbreaking” for the team.
Dozens of unofficial gameplay videos have appeared over the past week, and they spread so widely that many fans saw them without ever searching for the footage. Map images and early-build clips had been circulating for days before the statement.

What did Rockstar say about the GTA 6 leaks?
In a statement posted to social media and reported by Video Games Chronicle, Rockstar said the leaks were not how the team intended fans to see the game:
“We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week. It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team.”

Rockstar also said the game is “nearly there” and confirmed that the extended look premieres tomorrow on Netflix, on August 27. It asked fans to hold out for the November 19 release while conceding that the leaks may have spoiled parts of the intended experience.
The statement is Rockstar’s first public comment since the footage began spreading, and it lands a day before the extended look the studio had planned as its proper reveal.
Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent, has reportedly subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord in the hunt for the leaker. A former Rockstar developer has argued the leaks are “far less consequential” than the Hot Coffee scandal of 2005.
Fans who avoided the footage have still had much of the game described to them. Rockstar’s ask is that they wait until November 19 to see it properly.
