Google may be preparing a standalone app for macOS, according to a reference found in Google Play Services code. The string does not confirm a release, but it suggests Mac users could eventually access Google Search and AI Mode without opening a browser.
Android Authority found the reference, MAC_GOOGLE_APP, in Google Play Services version 26.36.30. The discovery comes after Google released a dedicated Google app for Windows in April, with a floating search interface, AI Mode and screen-based searches.

What the Google app for macOS reference shows
The evidence is a single internal label rather than a working application. Android Authority’s screenshot shows MAC_GOOGLE_APP alongside other system strings, with no interface or feature list attached to it. APK and system-app teardowns can reveal work in progress, but Google can remove those projects before release.
Google has not announced a macOS version of its Search app. The company already offers a standalone Gemini app for Mac, while its separate Google app for Windows brings web search, AI Mode, Google Lens-style screen searches and local-file access into a desktop launcher. Ars Technica reported that the Windows app opens with Alt + Space and that Google’s Mac desktop offering is currently centred on Gemini rather than Search.

What a Google app for macOS could do
The Windows app provides the clearest indication of Google’s direction. A Mac version could offer a keyboard shortcut for Search, AI Mode and screen-aware queries, but the code reference does not confirm any of those features. It also does not provide a launch date.
For Mac users in the UAE, the practical question would be whether Google releases the app in the region and which Search or AI Mode features are enabled locally. Google’s existing Gemini Mac app is available in regions and languages where Gemini is supported, but there is no confirmed UAE availability or feature list for this possible Google app.
Google has not commented on the reference. Until it does, the MAC_GOOGLE_APP label is evidence of development, not an announcement.
The existing Google Gemini desktop app for Windows shows how Google is moving Search and AI tools beyond the browser. For Mac users, Google’s Gemini app for macOS is the company’s confirmed desktop option today.
Has Google confirmed an app for macOS?
No. The MAC_GOOGLE_APP reference is evidence of possible development, not a product announcement.
What Google desktop app is already available on Mac?
Google’s standalone Gemini app is the confirmed Google desktop app for macOS. A separate Google Search app for Mac has not been announced.
