Forza Horizon 6 is reportedly heading to PS5 on 26 January 2027, with a physical disc release, according to a report from leaker billbil-kun on Dealabs. If accurate, that contradicts Playground Games’ repeated claim that the PlayStation version would arrive in 2026.
The racer launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC in May 2026. Xbox had reiterated a 2026 PS5 release in September, so a January date would mark a slip of a few weeks at most from the end of the year.
What the report claims
IGN reports that billbil-kun’s information points to a digital and physical launch on the same day. Push Square adds that the price would match the Xbox version at €69.99 or £59.99, and IGN puts the US figure at about $69.99. The leak also says an official announcement is due this week, with pre-orders opening straight after.
The date would keep the game clear of GTA 6, which is also reportedly set for 26 January 2027, according to IGN. None of this is confirmed. Playground hasn’t commented on the report.
Months of conflicting statements
In August, The Verge’s Tom Warren said the PS5 version wouldn’t ship this year. Playground answered with a statement that the game “will be releasing on PS5 later this year”, and repeated the point in a long September update, according to Kotaku. On 6 October, the studio also posted a statement on X saying it hadn’t been talking with players as much as it could, and that it was looking at changes to post-launch updates and communication.
Why the disc matters
Sony announced earlier this year that it plans to phase out discs on PlayStation by 2028, which drew petitions with hundreds of thousands of signatures, IGN notes. A boxed PS5 release from a first-party Xbox title would run against that trend.
It also fits Microsoft’s mixed approach under Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution stay off PS5, while Forza Horizon 6 doesn’t. IGN cites reports that Forza Horizon 5 sold more than 5 million copies on PS5 and earned over $300 million, which helps explain the commercial pull. The game is also part of Game Pass on Xbox.
