Emirates has introduced what it describes as the world’s first electrically powered Premium Economy seat, with a full-height adjustable privacy screen between every seat on its new Airbus A350 aircraft. The airline announced the cabin upgrade on 3 September, but has not yet published a route list or fare premium for the new seats.
Emirates Premium Economy seat adds privacy at the press of a button
The Emirates Premium Economy seat sits in a 28-seat cabin arranged in a 2-3-2 layout. Each seat is 20 inches wide, with up to 39 inches of pitch, and reclines into a cradle position without intruding into the row behind.
Passengers can raise or lower the divider using the seat controls, then lock it in place. The seat’s integrated Passenger Control Unit also includes lounge and meal modes, while a leather footrest and Safran Seats’ U-Dream headrest are designed to make the long-haul hours less punishing.
Emirates A350 brings wireless charging and a 4K screen
The electric Premium Economy seat is also the first Emirates Premium Economy seat to include wireless charging. Every seat has USB-C charging, a tray table with a phone holder and a 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreen for the airline’s ice entertainment system.
The new seats will debut on newly delivered Airbus A350 aircraft. Emirates’ A350 fleet page confirms the aircraft’s Premium Economy cabin and upgraded entertainment system, while Simple Flying’s A350 cabin tour provides an independent look at the new aircraft’s cabin equipment.
Emirates launched Premium Economy in 2022 and says the cabin is now available across markets served by its A350 aircraft. The airline’s announcement does not identify the first routes to receive this specific electrically adjustable seat, so passengers will need to check the aircraft type when booking rather than assume every Emirates Premium Economy flight has the same cabin.
The airline has been expanding the A350 product from its Dubai base, including the free Starlink Wi-Fi service on Emirates flights. The new seat is another cabin change, rather than a new ticket class.
