DLSS Multi Frame Generation RTX 40 support is unofficial, but modders have now shown the feature running on NVIDIA’s Ada cards and have already repaired the unlock after a DLSS-G update broke it. The VideoCardz report says the project enables 3X and 4X frame generation, rather than the regular 2X Frame Generation officially available on RTX 40 GPUs.

NVIDIA introduced Multi Frame Generation with DLSS 4 as an RTX 50-series feature. Its official DLSS 4 announcement says the technology generates up to three additional frames for each traditionally rendered frame, while RTX 40 cards receive an upgraded version of standard Frame Generation instead.

DLSS Multi Frame Generation RTX 40 unlock works around the software gate

The first Ada unlock patches restrictions in memory so NVIDIA’s DLSS-G code can run on RTX 40 hardware. The MFGAdaUnlock project describes itself as an in-memory ReShade add-on for RTX 40 cards, with no NVIDIA files modified on disk.

This is not equivalent to official support. The projects are experimental, compatibility varies by game and generated frames can add latency or produce artefacts. The newer universal project says it requires a game that already has working Streamline DLSS Frame Generation; it does not add Frame Generation to a title that lacks it.

NVIDIA’s update broke the mod, briefly

NVIDIA’s DLSS-G 310.9 provider changed the temporal kernel name and descriptor layout, breaking the earlier unlock for users who pulled the updated components through the NVIDIA App. Modders responded with release 0.4, restoring the Ada temporal-position correction and fixing frame pacing and near-duplicate frames at 3X and 4X, according to VideoCardz and the project’s GitHub release history.

A newer universal RTX 40 MFG project now documents support for DirectX 12 and Vulkan games, with the active game and Streamline stack determining the usable multiplier. Its release notes also warn that higher multipliers remain experimental and can cause artefacts, black screens or crashes.

The mod changes the software path, not NVIDIA’s published hardware support. NVIDIA’s current DLSS documentation still lists Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50 Series GPUs, while RTX 40 remains listed for regular Frame Generation. Previous DLSS coverage also tracks NVIDIA’s broader RTX 40 support plans. Earlier DLSS 4.5 reporting covers the official feature rollout. RTX 40 owners can therefore try the community unlock at their own risk, but there is no official RTX 40 MFG mode to fall back on when a game or driver update breaks it.

Does NVIDIA officially support Multi Frame Generation on RTX 40 GPUs?

No. NVIDIA officially reserves DLSS Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50 Series GPUs. The RTX 40 unlock is a community modification.

What does the RTX 40 MFG mod change?

It patches the running DLSS and Streamline path so supported games can request multiple generated frames, with the exact multiplier limited by the game and active software stack.

Is the RTX 40 MFG unlock safe to use?

It is experimental software. It can cause artefacts, crashes or black screens, and anti-cheat systems may object to process modifications in multiplayer games.
