Dave Bautista Kratos preparation is under way for the God of War series. The actor says he is three weeks into weight training and has two months to reach the shape he needs for the role.

In the video shared on Instagram, Bautista flexes in a gym and says he is three weeks into weight training, with two months left to reach the required shape. Yahoo Entertainment reproduced the caption, while IGN’s report identifies the clip as a preparation update for the series.

Dave Bautista Kratos preparation has two months to run

Bautista was confirmed as Kratos in August, replacing Ryan Hurst after Hurst tore a bicep during a stunt while filming in Vancouver. Hurst’s recovery would have delayed the production restart into 2027, according to Variety, which reported that scenes already filmed with Hurst will be reshot. The earlier God of War casting report covers the original recast news.

Prime Video has ordered two seasons, which are planned to shoot back-to-back. Yahoo reports that production is expected to resume in November, giving Bautista roughly the window mentioned in his caption to prepare before cameras return.

The actor had previously reduced his weight and muscle after years of action roles and professional wrestling. His new training block is therefore part of the recasting process, rather than a routine update from a production already featuring him on screen.

What happens to the God of War series now?

The show follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel through the Norse world to spread the ashes of Faye. Callum Vinson remains attached as Atreus, with Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Ed Skrein as Baldur among the wider cast.

There is still no announced release date. The series will stream on Prime Video, including in the UAE, once production and post-production are complete. That leaves Bautista with a training timetable, and the production with several previously filmed scenes to do again.
