ChatGPT Voice is gaining access to OpenAI’s GPT-6 models, connected plugins and ChatGPT Work, turning a voice conversation into a way to ask questions, use services and coordinate longer tasks. The changes are rolling out across the web and mobile, although some Work and model features remain tied to plan and workspace permissions.
ChatGPT Voice adds GPT-6 model choice
According to 9to5Mac, ChatGPT Voice can now use OpenAI’s GPT-6 models. That includes Astra, the most capable option, alongside the smaller Sol and Luna models. OpenAI’s release notes separately confirm that Voice can use GPT-6 Astra when it needs harder search or reasoning tasks, with the available models depending on the user’s plan and workspace settings.
OpenAI has also been moving GPT-6 models into the wider ChatGPT product. Our earlier GPT-6 Sol and Luna coverage looked at their API pricing, but Voice is a more immediate consumer-facing route to the models.
Plugins and ChatGPT Work arrive in Voice
Plugins can now work inside Voice, including connections for email, calendars and Slack. That gives spoken requests a path into services that previously required a text chat or separate workflow. Permissions still apply, so connecting an app does not give Voice access to everything in an account by default.
ChatGPT Work is also available on the web and mobile for eligible paid plans. OpenAI describes Work as the longer-running mode for research, analysis and finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations and reports. Work chats can use connected apps and scheduled tasks where the account and workspace allow them.
What ChatGPT Voice users need to know
The update does not make every feature universal. OpenAI says Work is gradually rolling out, and Voice in Work or Codex on desktop remains a separate capability from Work on web and mobile. In Business workspaces, Voice usage and agentic Work usage can also draw on different limits or shared credit pools, depending on the plan.
OpenAI’s release notes list GPT-Live-1 Voice usage at 1.25 credits per minute for Business Premium seats, down from five credits. That is a business-plan figure rather than a universal consumer price. UAE access should therefore be checked inside the user’s account rather than inferred from the global announcement.
