Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone Season 2 launches February 5 at 9pm GST, bringing the franchise’s biggest content drop yet. The update introduces nine new multiplayer maps, a Mars-based Zombies survival experience, Guild Strikes for Endgame mode, and a winter refresh for Warzone’s Rebirth Island, according to Activision’s announcement Thursday.
The season also marks the return of ranked play for both Black Ops 7 and Warzone’s Resurgence mode, alongside new abilities and skill tracks across all game modes.
Nine new maps across multiplayer and Zombies
The Black Ops 7 multiplayer map pool expands significantly with four launch maps and five additional mid-season additions. Launch day brings Torment (a blood-soaked hellscape), Sake (Japanese sake factory), Nexus (subzero testing facility), and the remastered Slums from Black Ops 2.
Mid-season content includes Torque (highway chase inspired by Battle of Los Angeles), Cliff Town (reimagined Yemen map), Mission: Peak (20v20 Skirmish map), plus returning favourites Grind and Firing Range from Black Ops 6.
Zombies players get an entirely new Mars survival map, described as a new off-world location for the round-based experience. The mode introduces Cursed Survival and Starting Room as additional Zombies variants.
Guild Strikes transform Endgame with dynamic events
Endgame mode receives its most significant update yet through Guild Strikes – surprise events that transform map locations into high-difficulty Nightmare Zones during matches. When Alden Dorne triggers these strikes by detonating hidden Cradle stockpiles, affected areas become extreme challenge zones with increased enemy difficulty and Strike Bosses to defeat.
Successfully defeating a Strike Boss rewards players with access to the Exotic Fabricator, which can upgrade any weapon to Exotic rarity with additional bonuses. Mid-season introduces Glitches – rare off-map experiences where up to four players survive six waves and defeat a Glitch boss to earn powerful Nightmare Skills.
The new Eagle Eye skill track focuses on precision and critical damage, whilst Sentinel Protocol and Blood Burner abilities add robotic support and motorcycle traversal options respectively.
Warzone brings winter Rebirth Island and ranked resurgence
Warzone’s Season 2 centres on a winter refresh for Rebirth Island, though specific environmental changes weren’t detailed in the announcement. The battle royale mode adds new perks and introduces Ranked Play: Resurgence for competitive players seeking skill-based matchmaking in the smaller map format.
Additional Warzone modes arrive throughout the season, building on the game’s current offerings. The update maintains cross-progression with Black Ops 7, ensuring unlocked weapons and cosmetics carry between both games.
Ranked play returns with competitive focus
Black Ops 7’s ranked mode launches using identical rules, maps, and loadout restrictions to the Call of Duty League professional competition. Players must win three placement matches to receive their starting rank, then earn Skill Rating (SR) through match performance to progress through divisions.
Ranked rewards include weapon camos, blueprints, and rank-specific cosmetics earned by climbing divisions and accumulating wins. Competitive integrity features ensure fair matches and maintain the mode’s legitimacy for serious players.
