Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the base MacBook Pro will get the M7 chip and Apple’s thinner, lighter design next year.

Apple unveiled the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, its first touchscreen Mac, last week. Gurman says next year’s entry model will share the new high-end machines’ design, with slimmer bezels and a thinner, lighter body.

The touchscreen model will also get a successor. Gurman says Apple will launch a second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro next year with M7 Pro and M7 Max chips. 9to5Mac relayed the report.

Gurman reported in June that Apple would skip the M6 Pro and M6 Max and jump to the M7 family “as early as the first half of next year”. He said the M7 line “is designed primarily around major advancements to on-device AI processing.” Tbreak’s earlier coverage of an entry-level MacBook Pro for spring 2027 fits the same timeline.

Gurman also doubts Apple will keep selling two high-end lines for long. He wrote:

With the first version, Apple is charging a $400 premium to add touch, OLED and the Dynamic Island interface. The M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros without touch are sticking around, but I’d be surprised if Apple continued developing non-touch versions of its high-end laptop models. There’s an added burden on its engineering, marketing and manufacturing teams to manage two sets of high-end MacBook Pros, and the prices are close enough for convergence to not be that far off.
