Ubisoft is reportedly developing two unannounced Assassin’s Creed games: a console and PC-scale project in ancient Rome and a mobile spin-off set in Jerusalem. According to MP1st, the claim comes from xj0nathan, a French content creator and well-known Assassin’s Creed insider, who says he found two internal codenames, Mars and Pocket, through Ubisoft’s backend systems. Ubisoft hasn’t announced or commented on either project.
Mars: ancient Rome, few details
In a YouTube video dated November 6, according to TechPowerUp, xj0nathan said the Rome project is codenamed Mars, and that two sources with access to Ubisoft’s backend systems backed up the information. Nothing is known about its story or gameplay. MP1st says there are no details beyond the setting. The leaker’s own reading is that Mars will likely tie into the Netflix show in some capacity, and his video also floats the idea that it could follow Assassin’s Creed Origins.
The Netflix link is plausible on paper. The streamer’s live-action series is set in Rome in 64 AD, as we covered when Netflix confirmed the Ancient Rome setting. The series has visited the city before, but in a different period. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood in 2010 was set in Renaissance-era Rome.
Don’t expect an announcement soon. Insider Gaming says it has also heard both codenames but couldn’t verify the claims to its own standards. If Mars moves into full production, Insider Gaming doesn’t expect news about it until 2029 or 2030.
Pocket: a Jerusalem mobile game
The second project is much smaller in scope. MP1st reports that Assassin’s Creed Pocket is in development for mobile devices and takes place in Jerusalem. That brings the series back to the setting of the first game. Jerusalem was one of the cities in the 2007 original, where Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad operated during the Third Crusade.
Pocket isn’t pitched as an open-world adventure. Xj0nathan says it will play somewhat like the Mastery Challenge mode in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and look similar to the most recent Prince of Persia. MP1st specifies the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown look, which would mean a stylised, less realistic art direction than the mainline games. The hero’s mentor is apparently a character named Myriam. Her role in the story is unknown.
Where it fits in Ubisoft’s schedule
The leak lands while the next mainline entry is still some way off. MP1st describes Assassin’s Creed Hexe as the darker upcoming entry set in Germany during the witch trials. Insider Gaming has since heard that Hexe was internally delayed by another year, likely into 2028. That timeline is also unconfirmed, and Ubisoft has made no announcement. We’ve tracked the project’s turbulence before, including another director leaving Hexe and a casting leak outlining its character roster.
The timing also follows Ubisoft’s remake statement. The leak arrives less than a week after Ubisoft said no new remakes of past games in the series are currently in the works. Our write-up of that statement is here. Mars and Pocket would be new games, not remakes, so the two claims don’t conflict.
For now, nothing in the leak has a platform, developer or release window attached to it. We’ll update this story if Ubisoft responds or further reporting adds detail.
Has Ubisoft confirmed an Assassin’s Creed game set in ancient Rome?
No. Ubisoft hasn’t announced or commented on Mars or Pocket. Both names come from xj0nathan, and Insider Gaming says it has heard the same codenames but couldn’t verify them.
Is Assassin’s Creed Pocket a mainline game?
No. It’s reportedly a mobile game set in Jerusalem, with short challenge-based play similar to Valhalla’s Mastery Challenges and an art style closer to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown than to the mainline games.
When could Mars arrive?
Nothing is dated. If the project goes into full production, Insider Gaming doesn’t expect news on it until 2029 or 2030. The next mainline game, Hexe, is reportedly delayed internally to 2028.
