What is Apple reportedly planning for the Mac?

Apple is reportedly preparing several Mac updates across the next two years, but none of the roadmap has been announced by the company. Bloomberg’s reporting covers the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook Neo, iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio, with the touch-screen MacBook Pro providing the biggest departure from today’s range.

The reported touch models would be 14-inch and 16-inch OLED MacBook Pros using M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. They are targeted for the end of 2026 or sometime in 2027, with Apple reportedly testing the hardware using macOS 27.1. Later touch-screen models with M7 chips are expected in 2027 or 2028.

A separate 14-inch MacBook Pro update is expected with an M6 chip, followed by an M7 model. Bloomberg says its design will remain similar to the existing 14-inch machine, making this sound more like a conventional processor refresh than a reason to postpone an urgent purchase.

Should you wait for a touch-screen MacBook Pro?

You should wait only if touch and OLED are essential features and your current computer can comfortably last until the reported launch window. No Mac currently offers a touch screen, so this would be a genuine addition rather than another processor bump wearing a new keynote jacket.

The catch is that the timing stretches from late 2026 into 2027, and Apple has not confirmed the product, specifications, or launch date. Roadmaps can change before hardware reaches shops, particularly when reports cover multiple chip generations extending into 2028.

Anyone who needs a Mac for work, study, or creative software within the next few months has little practical reason to wait solely for touch. Buy for the workload you have now. Waiting makes more sense for people who already own a capable Mac and consider direct screen input worth postponing an upgrade for.

Should you wait for the MacBook Neo, Air, or iMac?

Waiting for the reported MacBook Neo refresh makes sense only if the A19 Pro chip or new colours matter more than buying soon. The existing model uses A18 Pro, while the reported replacement has no precise launch date in the available roadmap.

The current Neo also received a $100 price increase only months after its debut, reportedly because of higher RAM costs. A future chip and palette change may improve the proposition, but neither addresses an immediate need until Apple announces the machine.

MacBook Air and iMac buyers have a nearer potential decision point. Buyers specifically holding out for an OLED MacBook Air face a much longer wait, with that model targeted for 2028.

The sensible dividing line is urgency rather than hype. Current Macs remain the only concrete choice, while the reported roadmap gives owners of serviceable machines a reason to watch rather than rush. Touch-screen MacBooks may represent Apple reversing a long-held position, but an unannounced computer cannot finish today’s work.
