Adobe says it rebuilt Photoshop, Premiere, and Substance 3D around NVIDIA’s RTX Spark chip, and the pitch to creatives is speed. According to Adobe VP Deepa Subramaniam, as reported by Engadget, the apps were “rearchitected” to take full advantage of the platform. NVIDIA’s own blog puts a ceiling on the gain: up to 2x faster AI, editing, colour and effects across creative workflows.
The timing is tied to hardware. NVIDIA says RTX Spark laptops go on sale on Friday, 16 October, and the Adobe work is the software side of that launch. Engadget describes RTX Spark as a system-on-chip for Windows laptops and small desktops that runs AI tasks locally, and says it targets creatives and newer developers more than the enterprise-focused DGX Spark does.
What changes in each app
In Photoshop, NVIDIA says GPU-accelerated compositing makes complex image editing faster and more responsive. Engadget reports that edits show in real time, for instance when applying effects like Light Leaks or using the Remove tool. NVIDIA lists improvements to both.
Premiere gets the broadest treatment. NVIDIA says the optimisations cover playback, rendering, colour grading and AI features such as Enhance Speech and Object Mask, and Subramaniam promised “real, tangible speed gains” in rendering, effects and AI-assisted editing. Substance 3D Painter, meanwhile, is set to speed up texture creation, from baking high-resolution mesh maps to opening, saving and exporting large projects.
What’s available now
The rollout is staged, which matters more than the headline figure. NVIDIA says AI feature optimisations in Photoshop and Premiere are now in beta, and users must opt in to the beta to get the RTX Spark-optimised builds. Substance 3D updates are listed as “coming soon”, and NVIDIA’s blog says the 2x performance is “coming soon” to Adobe’s top apps. So the full effect won’t land on day one, and the 2x figure is NVIDIA’s and Adobe’s own claim, with no independent testing yet.
NVIDIA’s announcement lists ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface, and MSI as launch partners, giving creatives in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt six brands to watch for local listings. None of the sources we read provide regional availability or pricing, so we’d wait for those listings and independent benchmarks before planning a purchase based on Adobe’s numbers.
Do I need an RTX Spark laptop to use these Photoshop and Premiere updates?
The speed gains NVIDIA describes apply to computers with RTX Spark. Engadget says the optimised apps target those machines, so other Windows PCs shouldn’t expect the same improvement.
Can I try the RTX Spark builds of Photoshop and Premiere now?
Yes, if you have compatible hardware. NVIDIA says the AI optimisations for both apps are in beta, and you need to opt in to get them. Substance 3D updates haven’t shipped yet.
When can I buy an RTX Spark laptop in the UAE?
NVIDIA says laptops launch on 16 October, but we haven’t found UAE availability or AED pricing from NVIDIA or its partners. Check the local listings from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft or MSI for confirmation.
