Acer AiTV 4K Google TV Box launches at Comic Con Africa
TL;DR
  • Acer’s AiTV 4K Google TV Box (ATV14) is a compact 4K streamer with Dolby Vision and Atmos.
  • Hardware includes Amlogic S905X5M, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage, Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet.
  • AI Super Resolution upscales video; Google TV with voice control runs the show.

Acer has launched a compact 4K Google TV box at Comic Con Africa. It’s called the AiTV 4K UHD Google TV (ATV14). It runs on an Amlogic S905X5M chip with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. It supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6 and voice control with “Hey Google.” Pre-orders in South Africa start today. UAE availability is not confirmed yet.

Hardware and performance

A small box with serious parts. The focus is on smooth playback and quick app switching.

  • Amlogic S905X5M quad-core CPU
  • 2 GB DDR4 RAM and 32 GB eMMC
  • Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet
  • MicroSD expansion up to 128 GB

The Amlogic S905X5M is built for streaming boxes. With 2 GB of RAM, the device is designed for responsive menus and stable playback. Local storage is 32 GB, which is sufficient for apps and cached data, and you can expand it with a MicroSD card. Wired Ethernet is there for stable 4K streams; Wi-Fi 6 helps on busy home networks.

Picture, sound and AI features

The box aims for a strong picture and audio plus some helpful AI.

  • 4K UHD output with AI Super Resolution (AISR-2) upscaling
  • Dolby Vision support
  • Dolby Atmos audio support
  • Optical audio out

AISR-2 uses AI to upscale lower-resolution video to near-4K. It works frame by frame to sharpen detail and cut noise. Dolby Vision expands colour and dynamic range on supported TVs. For audio, Atmos support enables object-based sound when paired with compatible receivers or soundbars. Optical out keeps older gear in play.

Google TV experience and voice control

This is a Google TV device, so content takes centre stage with voice built in.

  • “Hey Google” voice search and commands
  • Remote with mic for quick control
  • Access to Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Disney+ and more
  • AI-assisted UI refresh for faster navigation

Voice control helps with finding titles, jumping into apps and basic playback. Google TV combines services into one home screen, so recommendations pull from the apps you use. Acer also highlights an AI-assisted interface refresh that should make menus feel snappier and streamline the path to your apps and settings.

Ports, accessories and gaming

The box is set up for TVs, sound systems and a few extra tricks.

  • HDMI to TV
  • USB-C for power, plus USB-A
  • Optical audio and Ethernet
  • Works with game controllers, TWS speakers and IP cameras
  • Steam Link support for in-home PC game streaming

It’s small enough to hide behind a TV. You can power it over USB-C and plug in accessories via USB-A. Ethernet is handy for steady 4K HDR streaming. Acer highlights game controller support and Steam Link. That means you can stream games from a PC on the same network to the living room. Handy if you don’t want a full PC under the TV.

Availability, price and UAE context

Acer announced the box at Comic Con Africa with live demos at the Incredible Connection stand. Pre-orders in South Africa open today at a launch price of R1499.99 via Incredible Connection. Acer has not announced the pricing or availability in the UAE yet. If it comes to the UAE, expect Google TV apps that are already available here, such as Netflix, OSN+, StarzPlay and YouTube, to be ready on day one.

Who is this for?

People who want to upgrade an older TV or add Google TV to a projector or a gaming room. Also, anyone who wants Dolby Vision and Atmos in a low-profile box, plus voice control. PC gamers who use Steam Link will care too.

  • Upgrading non-smart or slow smart TVs
  • Clean Google TV interface with voice
  • Dolby Vision and Atmos passthrough
  • Wired Ethernet for stable 4K HDR
  • Steam Link for couch gaming

If your TV’s built-in apps feel slow or limited, this kind of box clears that up. You also get a consistent interface across brands, Google Assistant support, and the option to wire in Ethernet to avoid buffering during big games and live sports.

What’s missing or unclear

A few details are not in the release.

  • No mention of the HDMI version
  • No HDR10+ note
  • No UAE retail partners or AED price yet
  • RAM is 2 GB, which is standard but not high

These are not deal-breakers for most users, but HDMI version and HDR10+ support matter to individuals with specific TVs or receivers. 2 GB RAM is standard in this segment; it should be sufficient for Google TV, although heavy multitaskers may notice reloads with many apps open. UAE buyers should wait for local pricing and warranty details.
