Abu Dhabi Tajer licence extension rules now give eligible licence holders one extra year to operate without a physical office, provided their current office-free period expires during 2026. The Abu Dhabi Media Office announcement says the extension is intended to reduce the cost of starting and running a business.
The Tajer Abu Dhabi programme covers more than 1,200 economic activities, compared with 30 when it launched in 2017. New licences rose 8 per cent in the first half of 2026, following an increase of nearly 25 per cent in 2025, according to The National.
Abu Dhabi Tajer licence extension: who qualifies
The extra year applies to current Tajer licence holders whose existing period without a physical premises ends during 2026. The announcement does not state a new fixed end date for every licence, so businesses will need to check their own licence records and renewal requirements with Abu Dhabi’s licensing authorities.
The National reports that 7,823 commercial and industrial establishments benefited from a separate exemption from fines linked to delayed economic licence renewals or cancellations. The measure was credited with supporting business continuity.
What else changed for Abu Dhabi businesses
ADDED also extended the validity of Rowad industrial licences from two to three years before construction begins. Licences for projects under construction now run for four years instead of three, giving investors more time during the build phase.
For founders, the immediate benefit is time: eligible Tajer holders can delay the cost of taking on premises while they establish their businesses. It does not remove the other licensing, activity or renewal conditions attached to operating in Abu Dhabi.
