Xbox Cloud Gaming is getting monthly hour limits in November, while Microsoft is adding a pay-as-you-go option for players who want to stream games they already own without a Game Pass subscription. The change affects Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential, and Microsoft says it expects 4% of subscribers to be affected.

Xbox Cloud Gaming limits begin in November

According to Microsoft’s Xbox Wire announcement, Game Pass Ultimate will include 15 hours of cloud gaming each month. Premium will include 10 hours, while Essential will include five.

The limits replace the unlimited cloud access currently included with eligible Game Pass plans. Once the monthly allowance is used, subscribers will be able to buy additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store. Microsoft has not yet announced the price of those top-ups, whether unused hours will roll over, or whether the bundles will work the same way in every market.

The Verge reports that the restrictions could make cloud gaming less useful for Xbox One owners using the service to play Series X|S titles, and for players who use streaming to try games before downloading them. Microsoft says the cost of providing cloud gaming rises as people use it for longer.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is also going pay-as-you-go

From November, players without Game Pass will be able to purchase cloud playtime and stream eligible games they own on supported devices. The Verge’s separate report says the option is aimed at occasional users and people who primarily play on phones or other devices without an Xbox.

The owned-game option could make cloud access easier to use without adding another monthly subscription. It does not mean every Xbox game will be streamable: Microsoft says eligibility, supported devices, available hours and purchasing options can vary by market.

For UAE players, Xbox’s regional store currently displays Game Pass prices in US dollars. Microsoft has not announced the UAE pricing for extra hours, the local catalogue or the exact November launch details. Tbreak’s previous coverage has also tracked Xbox’s free ad-supported cloud gaming test, which remains a separate Insider preview rather than a replacement for these paid plans.

Microsoft says it will share pricing, eligible games, market availability and remaining-time details before the changes take effect.
