Xbox 360 games are coming to PC, leaked document reveals

Microsoft's leaked developer plan brings Xbox 360 games to PC from 2027, and its disc-to-digital programme looks set to launch this month. Here's what we know.

Xbox 360 games are coming to PC, according to a leaked Microsoft document sent to developers and seen by The Verge. The document says Xbox 360 titles will run on the next-gen Project Helix console, “Xbox PCs” and handheld devices — the next step after original Xbox games arrived on PC in July.

What the document says

Developers can opt into making their 360 games backward compatible, and keep control of pricing and whether a game joins Game Pass. The rollout is expected to be “gradual”, running between 2027 and 2028 “across next-gen devices”. The full launch of original Xbox games on PC is set for October 2026; the early release began in July with four games — BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fuzion Frenzy — all included with every Game Pass plan.

The disc-to-digital programme edges closer

The same document details the disc-to-digital feature first reported in July: put an Xbox One or Series game disc into a console with a disc drive and you receive a digital licence bound to that disc and your account. The licence follows you across Xbox devices, and follows the disc if it changes hands — so trade and resale still work, and the original owner’s digital copy stops working once the disc is sold.

A public beta was scheduled for July, with general availability this month. The beta was delayed; whether August still holds is unclear. With Project Helix reportedly going disc-free and Sony having declared game discs dead, disc-to-digital is Microsoft’s answer to a future without drives — one that lets the physical collection come with you.

What this means for players in the UAE

Game Pass is available in the UAE, and the four original Xbox games are included in every plan, so regional players can already try backward compatibility on PC and handhelds. The Xbox 360 rollout is a 2027–2028 affair and Microsoft has not announced regional specifics; expect the UAE to follow the global schedule.
