The Mission: Impossible franchise is known for Tom Cruise’s feats of physical endurance, fast running and magnetic intensity. That’s exactly the stunt-based spectacle we can expect in the latest instalment, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which is releasing this weekend in the UAE.
As good of an action actor as Tom Cruise is, he has many other movies that show his diversity of acting, and I’ve listed what I consider to be the best Tom Cruise movies.

Best Tom Cruise movies
Before you head to the theatres to watch the latest instalment of Mission Impossible this weekend, here is a round-up of some of the best Tom Cruise movies.
Jerry Maguire
Tom Cruise has released many memorable movies, and none compares to Jerry Maguire. It has unforgettable moments that have become more memorable than the film itself.
Famous one-liners such as “You complete me” or “Show Me the Money” mask one of Tom Cruise’s best and most emotional movies. It meshes the writer and director perfectly, giving us a heartwarming and inspirational romantic tale of a cynical sports agent that gets an epiphany and tries to change.
Jerry Maguire is streaming on Netflix.
Edge of Tomorrow
Released in 2014, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ or ‘Live Die Repeat’ as it was later marketed, casts a different shade of Cruise as an action star as he takes the role of Lieutenant William Cage. His character is a cowardly guy with a growth curve that turns him into an elite soldier through the Groundhog Day-inspired plot line.
Cage has to relieve his final two days, learn skills and avoid being killed to ensure that the aliens are stopped. The chemistry between Cruise and Blunt is just excellent. His improvement from a cowardly soldier to an elite warrior is the satisfying aspect that makes this movie appear in this list.
Edge of Tomorrow is streaming on Netflix.
A Few Good Men
One of the greatest scenes in movie history comes from ‘A Few Good Men’, and – Yes, you can’t handle the truth. Tom Cruise’s Lt. Daniel Kaffee is a naval lawyer who is more interested in baseball than the cases assigned to him. He is a pencil pusher, but this changes as he is assigned a case of a marine killed in Guantanamo Bay. Demi Moore, Kevin Pollak and Jack Nicholson add to the star power making A Few Good Men an intense thriller.
Top Gun: Maverick
I would have mentioned the first Top Gun, but we can all agree that Maverick takes the cake in this instance. It is a captivating storyline when Tom Cruise reprises his role as Pete Mitchell, call sign Maverick to take on the mantle of mentoring a younger generation of fighter pilots preparing to infiltrate an enemy country and destroy its weapons program.
Collateral
We meet Tom Cruise as a silver-haired and super-focused Vincent stalking through the shadows of an LA night who drags Jamie Foxx’s Max into a night of mayhem. Vincent (Tom Cruise) is a tunnel-visioned assassin who is a sleek and cool sociopath. Tom Cruise has never been in control of a role than in this movie as he rides around the city committing crimes. The catch is the film’s arc, as Tom Cruise depicts Vincent losing control as the night fades.
Collateral is streaming on Netflix.
