Annapoorni
After sharing screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan, Nayanthara headlines Nilesh Krishnaa’s directorial debut Annapoorani – The Goddess of Food. The film is her 75th outing, and also stars Jai, Sathyaraj, KS Ravikumar, and Redin Kingsley, while the music has been composed by S Thaman. The plot of the flick revolves around a girl born in an orthodox family who aspires to become a chef. She has to overcome various challenges to achieve her dream in the culinary world.

Parking
Parking, as the name suggests, is about the issue of parking (cars) in a house. It is the clash between two strong-willed tenants of a house as to who gets to park their vehicles inside the compound. The issue snowballs into a major flashpoint. The young and talented Harish Kalyan headlines the film. The thriller drama film, directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan, also features Indhuja Ravichandran and MS Bhaskar in pivotal roles. Prathana Nathan, Rama Rajendra and Ilavarasu are also in the cast.

80s Buildup
Billed as a fantasy comedy, the film is written and directed by S Kalyaan who had previously helmed movies like Jackpot, Ghosty and Gulaebaghavali. The film’s story is about a die-hard fan of Kamal Haasan. Santhanam plays the hero. KS Ravikumar and Munishkanth play the characters of Lord Yama and Chitragupta. 80s Buildup also features Radhika Preethi, Mansoor Ali Khan, Rajendran, Redin Kingsley, and Thangadurai, among others. Late actors Mayilsamy and Manobala were also part of the cast.

Dhruva Natchathiram
After enduring legal and financial challenges for nearly six years, Chiyaan Vikram and director Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram is finally set to arrive in the theaters. But even now, there is some apprehension that there may be some last-minute hitches that can derail the film’s release. The film is said to be a spicy action story involving secret agents. Apart from Vikram, the film also stars Ritu Varma, R Parthiban, Radhika Sarathkumar, Simran, and Vinayan. The movie has musical score by Harris Jayaraj and editing by Anthony.

The Village
The Village is a horror thriller series directed by Milind Rau. The story was initially based on Asvin Srivatsangam, Vivek Rangachari, and Shamik Dasgupta’s graphic horror novel of the same name. The series stars Arya, Divya Pillai, George Maryan, Baby Aazhiya, John Kokken and Pooja Ramachandran. The six-episode series revolves around a young doctor, and his family. He has to save his family trapped in an eerie, ghostly village.
The Village is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Chithha
This emotional drama, involving a sensitive subject (kidnap of kids), is already the talk of the industry. Helmed by SU Arunkumar (of Panaiyaarum Padminiyum fame), Chittha features Siddharth and Nimisha Sajayan in the leads. This thriller hasSiddharth playing the role of an uncle to a young girl. Chithha is backed by Siddharth’s home banner, Etaki Entertainments, and is being released in Telugu as Chinna. The film was critically acclaimed when it released in the theaters.
Chithha is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Leo
Vijay is the biggest star in the post Kamal-Rajni generation in Tamil Nadu. And when his film releases on OTT, there is bound to be a high-octane craze. Leo is directed by the most-in-demand Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj. His previous film was Vikram with Kamal Haasan. His next is going to be with Rajinikanth, and that should make clear his pedigree and popularity. Leo is an action thriller in which a mild-mannered man gets targeted by gangsters as he’s mistaken for someone else. Leo also stars Sanjay Dutt, Trisha, Gautam Menon, and Arjun in important roles. The film will be released in multiple languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Anirudh Ravichander, who struck gold with Jailer and Jawan, has composed the songs for Leo.

Jigarthanda Double X
This is perhaps the most interesting movie in Tamil in recent times, which is a sequel to Karthik Subbaraj’s hit gangster drama Jigarthanda (2014). The film borrows the core premise from its predecessor. It tells the story of an aspiring filmmaker trying to make a movie with a real-life gangster in the lead. Headlined by SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence, the film is set in 1975. As per the trailer, Lawrence plays a gangster who wants to break Tamil cinema’s stereotypical notions of skin color. Suryah stars as a filmmaker, an erstwhile assistant of Satyajit Ray, who strives to make a ‘Pandya Western’ movie with Lawrence’s character. Karthik Subbaraj has called Jigarthanda Double X his tribute to Clint Eastwood and Satyajit Ray. The movie also stars Nimisha Sajayan, Shine Tom Chacko, Naveen Chandra and Sathyan.

Japan
Actor Karthi and director Raju Murugan have joined hands for the first time for Japan, which seems to be a heist thriller. Raju Murugan, for the record, co-authored the dialogues for the Akkineni Nagarjuna and Karthi-starrer Thozha (2016). Karthi is said to be playing a thief in the intriguingly titled Japan. His character is said to be inspired by the notorious thief Tiruvarur Murugan, who gave the police a run for their money. While Anu Emmanuel plays the leading lady, the supporting cast comprises Jithan Ramesh, KS Ravikumar, Sunil, Vijay Milton, Vagai Chandrasekar and Bava Chelladurai. The film is releasing in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam with the same title.

Irugapatru
The film is a nuanced take on modern-day relationships between husband and wife in a family. It deals with three different couples with different temperaments and backgrounds. It offers an interesting perspective on man-woman dynamics within the ambit of marriage. It deals with new-found issues like mental health, gaslighting, wokeness, love language, cognitive dissonance etc. Irugapatru stars Vikram Prabhu, Shraddha Rama Srinath, Vidharth, Shri, Abernathy and Saniya Iyyapan, and is directed by Yuvaraj Dhayalan.

Raththam
This crime movie, directed by CS Amudhan, has Vijay Antony, Ramya Nambeesan, Nandita Swetha and Mahima Nambiar in the leads. The supporting cast includes Nizhalgal Ravi, Jagan, John Mahendran, Mahesh and Kalai Rani. While Kannan has scored the music, cinematography is by Gopi Amarnath and editing by Suresh. The film was a disaster at the box-office.

Iraivan
This psycho thriller has Jayam Ravi’ playing a cop. The story revolves around a serial killer who targets young women ruthlessly. Jayam Ravi plays a cop, while Rahul Bose plays the psychotic antagonist. Nayanthara plays the leading lady. Music for the thriller is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film is directed by I Ahmed, who previously helmed Endrendrum Punnagai and Manithan. Iraivan is also the second collaboration between Jayam Ravi and Ahmed after Jana Gana Mana, a big-budget spy thriller, which is yet to be completed.

Chandramukhi 2
Chandramukhi 2 is the sequel to the 2005 Rajnikanth blockbuster. The new film revolves around Vettaiyan Raja and dancer Chandramukhi (the characters essayed by Rajinikanth and Jyotika). The sequel is said to go into the past of Chandramukhi. The film marks the third project of Kangana Ranaut in Tamil and she is pitted against Raghava Lawrence. It also features Vadivelu, Raadhika and Mahima Nambiar. The music for the film is by Keeravani. The film is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and is helmed by P Vasu, the man who handled the original too, which was a remake of the Kannada movie Apthamitra, which itself drew inspiration from the Malayalam classic Manichithrathazhu.

Koozhangal
Presented by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan’s Rowdy Pictures, Koozhangal was India’s official entry to the Oscars 2022. It also won the prestigious Tiger Award, the top honor at the 50th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2021. The story is based on a real incident of director Vinothraj’s family which inspired him to make the movie. It stars Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan in the cast. The music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
