This is the second and concluding part of the historical drama Ponniyin Selvan by filmmaker Mani Ratnam based on the serialized novel of the same name by Kalki Krishnamurthy.  Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan and Kumaravel have written the screenplay. The crew includes music composer AR Rahman, cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad, production designer Thota Tharani and costume designer Eka Lakhani. The sprawling cast comprises Vikram, Trish.

Ugram is the story of a determined police officer who investigates a series of missing persons in Warangal. Tragedy strikes when the cop, his wife and their daughter meet with an accident. While he is injured, his wife and child suddenly go missing. Driven by love and desperation, he embarks on a mission to locate his family, unravelling shocking secrets. Directed by Vijay Kanakamedala and produced by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi, Ugram features Allari Naresh, Mirnaa Menon, Indraja and Sharath Lohitashwa in the lead roles.


Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum

Genre: Comedy | Language: Malayalam | Rating: PG13

Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum features Fahadh Faasil as a happy-go-lucky man who goes about his life unfussily and devotes himself to keeping those around him happy.

Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum also stars Viji Venkatesh, Anjana Jayaprakash, Dhwani Rajesh, Mukesh, Vineeth, Indrans, Althaf Salim, Mohan Agashe, Chhaya Kadam, Piyush Kumar, Abhiram Radhakrishnan and Avyukth Menon, among others.

The late actor Innocent appears as a character who is fascinated by technology. Director Akhil Sathyan also serves as the editor and writer of the movie. Justin Prabhakaran has composed its music. The movie has been shot in Kerala, Mumbai, and Goa locations.

Modern Love Chennai

Modern Love: Chennai is the adaptation of the popular New York-based anthology Modern Love. There is already Modern Love Mumbai and Modern Love Hyderabad. The city-specific anthology is about stories that have relevance to the local background.

Modern Love Chennai has stories helmed by Bharathiraja, Balaji Sakthivel, Thiagarajan Kumararaja, Rajumurugan, Krishnakumar Ramakumar and Akshay Sundher. The show stars Ritu Varma, Ashok Selvan, Ramya Nambessan, Wamiqa, Sri Gouri Priya, Samyuktha Vishwanathan, Pawan Alex, Aniiruth Kanakarajan, T J Bhanu, Sanjula Sarathi, Chu Khoy Sheng, Srikrishna Dayal, Vasudevan Murali, Vasundhara, Kishore and Vijayalakshmi.

The series has music by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, Yuvan Shankar Raja, G V Prakash Kumar and Sean Roldan. The album, which has 18 numbers, beautifully captures the essence of each story.

Yeh Meri Family 2

This web series marks the OTT debut of TV actress Juhi Parmar.  Set in the 1990s era in Lucknow, the series captures the essence of nostalgia with radio transistors, newspaperman, TV cable, two-wheelers, playing ludo with family and making the small moments count.

The story revolves around the Awasthi family and is narrated by 15-year-old Ritika (Hetal Gada), and the entire show is captured from her point of view. Directed by Mandar Kurundkar, the latest season comes with a new cast of Hetal Gada, Anngad Maaholay, Rajesh Kumar, Juhi Parmar and Veena Mehta.


Dahaad

Genre: Thriller | Language: Hindi | Rating: PG13

Actress Sonakshi Sinha is making her OTT debut with Dahaad. Set in Rajasthan, the series, created by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, follows a police officer assigned the case of women committing suicide in public bathrooms. But are they suicides?

Dahaad also features Gulshan Devaiah, Sohum Shah and Vijay Varma in pivotal roles. The eight-episode series, directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi, had its world premiere at the 2023 edition of the Berlinale International Film Festival in February.


Pathu Thala

Genre: Action | Language: Tamil | Rating: 18TC

Pathu Thala revolves around the policeman who investigates the abduction of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. He suspects a feared gangster. But he’s unable to gather evidence due to his stronghold in the sand-mining industry. To solve this case, the cop decides to go undercover and steadily makes his way into the trusted circle of the don.

But the shocking revelations that he unveils along the way shake his very resolve, making him question everything he knows. Directed by Obeli N Krishna, Pathu Thala stars Gautham Karthik and Silambarasan in the leads.


Ravanasura

Genre: Action | Language: Telugu | Rating: 18TC

Any Ravi Teja movie is bound to be a mass entertainer. This one, too is no exception.  The story is about a criminal lawyer who masterminds many mysterious murders. Why? To figure that out, a cop follows the case with diligence. And what he finds is a major surprise.

The cast includes Ravi Teja, Sushanth, Jayaram, Murali Sharma, Anu Emmanuel and Megha Akash. The film is directed by Sudheer Varma. The film had an average run in its theatrical run.


Kabzaa

Genre: Action | Language: Kannada | Rating: U

This was a pan-India release as it featured Upendra, Sudeep, Shivarajkumar, Shriya Saran and Murli Sharma. The historical action movie, however, did not do all that well in its theatrical run. The story centers on a young man who joins the underworld after his older brother is brutally murdered. He avenges his brother’s death and ascends the ranks to become a mafia don.


Jubilee

Genre: Action | Language: Hindi | Rating: 18TC

Created and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, this series features Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurrana, Ram Kapoor, Sidhant Gupta, and Wamiqa Gabbi, among others. The series showcases the allure and extravaganza of the Bollywood of the yore with warts and all.  Set in the times of India’s independence and the years following that, it tells the story of a studio boss, his movie-star wife, a rising star, a dancer, and a refugee. The first part of the series will premiere on April 7, and a five-episode second part will be released on April 14.


Pathaan

Genre: Action | Language: Hindi | Rating: 13+

This is Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen after a gap of five years. The film, a typical action adventure involving an Indian spy, is directed by Siddharth Anand (who has made films like Bang Bang and War before).

Deepika Padukone is the female lead, while John Abraham plays the antagonist in Pathaan. Ashutosh Rana, Dimple Kapadia, Siddhant Ghegadmal and Gautam Rode are also in the cast.  The film’s music is composed by Vishal–Shekhar, and the score is composed by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara. The film was a big box-office success when released in the last week of January.

Bakaasuran

Genre: Family / Social drama | Language: Tamil | Rating: UA

Bakasuran is about exploiting young school and college-going girls via online racketeers. It stars Selvaragavan, Natty, Radhav Ravi, Tarakshi Thenappan, and Devadarshini, among others. The director of Bakasuran, Mohan G, is known to handle controversial subjects centred on caste issues in Tamil Nadu.  The film had an average outing during its theatrical run.


Hunter

Genre: Action adventure | Language: Hindi | Rating: N/A

Hunter is an action story about ACP Vikram, who juggles his past and future while trying to find a missing woman in the dark alleys of Mumbai. The series stars Suniel Shetty, Esha Deol, Rahul Dev, Smita Jayakar, Barkha Bisht and Karanvir Sharma, among others. The eight-part series is packed with slick action sequences and is directed by Prince Dhiman and Alok Batra.


Christopher

Genre: Action | Language: Malayalam

The Malayalam crime thriller starring Mammootty was released in the theatres recently. Directed by Unnikrishnan B, the plot revolves around a vigilante cop who doesn’t always follow the book. The film also features Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sneha, Vinay Rai and Shine Tom Chacko, among others.

The Malayalam movie Christopher streams on Amazon Prime Video.


Dada

Genre: Action | Language: Tamil

The story is a feel-good emotional one about a single parent. Two final-year college students become parents accidentally. Situations separate them, with one of them being forced to raise the baby. The struggles and battles that follow are told in a fun and sentimental way.

Directed by Ganesh K Babu, the film stars Kavin, Aparna Das and the veteran Bhagyaraj, Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran, VTV Ganesh, Pradeep Antony and Harish K, among others.

The Tamil film Dada streams on Amazon Prime Video.


Adrishyam

Genre: Action | Language: Malayalam

Adrishyam had its theatrical run last year, so it means it has taken its time to reach the OTT. The film is a bilingual release – it is Adrishyam in Malayalam and Yuki in Tamil. Directed by Zac Harriss, the film is a thriller and stars Narain, Joju George, Sharafudheen, Anandi Athmiya Rajan, Pratap Pothen, John Vijay, Munish Kant, Sinil Sainudeen, Vinodini, Anjali Rao and Bindu Sanjeev. The Tamil version stars Kathir and Natty.

The Malayalam film Adrishyam is now streaming on Amazon Prime video.


Thankam

Genre: Action | Language: Malayalam

Coming close on the heels of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Gold, Thankam, which also means gold, has Biju Menon and Vineeth Srinivasan in the leads. The latter is fresh after the success of Mukundan UnniAssociates. Aparna Balamurali and Girish Kulkarni are also in the cast.

Directed by Saheed Arafath, Thankam is a murder thriller set in the backdrop of the gold business in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. National award winner Syam Pushkaran has scripted the film. Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Syam Pushkaran have jointly produced the movie. It is a gripping movie that is worth your watch.
