New Hindi movies to watch this Week across the cinema, Netflix, Prime Video and other OTT platforms

Hindi | Action | Rating: 18+

Animal

A Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial with problematic dialogues and scenes, that is what we got in the trailer. And that is what he is known for. Animal, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Tripti Dimri, looks to be an exciting action thriller that explores the complex relationship between a father and son duo. Written and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, of Kabir Singh fame, the film promises some thrilling moments. The pre-booking for the film is said to be very high.

Aankh Micholi

Helmed by Oh My God! director Umesh Shukla, the family entertainer revolves around an Indian wedding and focuses on the antics of two mismatched families. There are family secrets to be hidden too, and it is all for fun. The film features Paresh Rawal, Abhimanyu Dassani, and Mrunal Thakur in prominent roles. Others in the cast include Abhishek Banerjee, Grusha Kapoor, Vijay Raaz, Sharman Joshi, Divya Dutta, and Darshan Jariwala.

Jawan

This is a film in which Shah Rukh Khan has gone mostly with the talents from South India. The director Atlee is a popular masala filmmaker in Tamil. The film’s female lead is Nayanthara, billed as the lady superstar in the South. One of the main antagonists in the film is Vijay Sethupathi, a popular actor from Tamil Nadu. And the film’s music is by Anirudh, the hotshot music director from Chennai. Priyamani, Yogi Babu (both from south India) and Sanya Malhotra also star in the film, which will feature Deepika Padukone in a cameo. The film marks Shah Rukh’s first major attempt at pan-Indian success, after the 2015 hit Chennai Express. The film was a big hit in the theaters.

Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video

The film is billed as an edge-of-the-seat thriller that follows a police officer who has to solve the case of a young woman’s disappearance. Starring Nimrat Kaur, Radhika Madan, Bhagyashree, Subodh Bhave, Chinmaye Mandlekar, Shashank Shinde, and Sumeet Vyas, this thriller features some of the most talented actors from Hindi and Marathi film industries. Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the film is directed by Mikhil Musale and co-written by him and Parinda Joshi.

Tejas

Written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara, Tejas is the story of a woman Air Force pilot who is assigned the mission of rescuing Indians who’ve been held captive by a terrorist group. Tejas features National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut in the title role of Tejas Gill. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, the film also stars Mirko Quaini, Rohed Khan and Anuj Khurana in pivotal roles.

12th Fail

This is a semi-true story of a young farmer who uses his grandmother’s life savings to sit for the IPS exams in Delhi. It is about the power of belief of a single man. The film is based on Anurag Pathak’s novel Twelfth Fail which is about IAS officer Mohan Kumar Sharma’s journey. The movie marks the return of Vidhu Vinod Chopra as a director after a gap of few years. The film features Vikrant Massey, Medha Shankar, Harish Khanna, Anshumaan Pushkar, Anant Joshi in the cast.

Ganapath

In Ganapath, Kriti Sanon and Tiger Shroff share screen space again after their 2014 film Heropanti. Ganapath is billed as a ‘sci-fi dystopian action thriller’, whatever that is. Tiger is Guddu, an ordinary man who has to become Ganapath, an immortal warrior, to save the voiceless from evil. Amitabh Bachchan is said to be playing Tiger’s guide in the film. Ganapath is scheduled to be released globally in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The film has been written and directed by Vikas Bahl, and it has been produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Vikas Bahl, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Jackky Bhagnani.

Yaariyan 2

The much celebrated Malayalam hit Bangalore Days (2014), directed by Anajali Menon, is being remade in Hindi, albeit with some tweaks as Yaariyan 2. The winsome Malayalam flick was about the bond between three cousins and their battles in their lines. Further, the film is a standalone sequel to the 2014 film Yaariyan by Divya Khosla Kumar.  Yaariyan 2  stars Divya Khosla Kumar, Yash Dasgupta, Meesan Jaffrey and Warina Hussain, and the cast also includes Malayalam actresses Anaswara Rajan and Priya P Varrier. Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru direct the film.

Mission Raniganj – The Great Bharat Rescue

Akshay Kumar reprises the role of mining expert Jaswant Singh Gill in this film written by Vipul K Rawal and directed by Tinu Suresh Desai. Mission Raniganj narrates the heroic tale of the coal mine accident that shook the nation in November 1989 and the relentless efforts of the rescue team led by Jaswant Singh Gill. The incident happened at Mahabir Colliery, Raniganj, West Bengal. Gill saved the lives of 65 miners trapped in a flooded coal mine. He also got the moniker of Capsule Gill after the incident. Thanks to Gill’s bravery, November 16 is celebrated as ‘Rescue Day’. He died in 2019.

Khufiya

Vishal Bhardwaj had his web series Charlie Chopra and The Mystery of Solang Valley streaming on (SonyLiv) a week back. And now his movie, a spy thriller based on Amar Bhushan’s novel Escape to Nowhere, arrives to high expectations. He is a former chief of the Counter Espionage Unit of R&AW. The movie stars Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi, now a regular in Bhardwaj’s offerings. The story revolves around an Indian spy operative who tracks down a mole in the government set up to sell defence secrets to enemies. The story gets intriguing when the mole’s activities are monitored, and his relationship with his wife gets under the scanner.

OMG 2

OMG 2 is a sequel to Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar’s starrer: Oh my God. In the original film, Akshay essayed the character of Lord Krishna. In the sequel, he is the  ‘messenger of Shiva’. The film is a story of a man’s fight for the right to education for his son. Pankaj Tripathi plays the man. As a lawyer, Yami Gautam locks horns with him in the courtroom.  Helmed by Amit Rai, OMG 2 ran into some censor controversies. At the theatres, the film was more than an average hit.

Fukrey 3

This comedy caper stars Richa Chadha, Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat, Pankaj Tripathi, and Manjot Singh in the lead roles. Ali Fazal, who played the role of Zafar in the previous two films, won’t be joining the Fukrey gang for the franchise’s third instalment. Written by Vipul Vig, the film is bankrolled by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment in association with AA Films. The Fukrey gang is still intact and seems involved in politics and elections.

The Vaccine War

Touted as India’s first ‘bio-science’ movie, the film throws light on a team of Indian scientists as they develop an indigenous and affordable COVID-19 vaccine. The film is said to be based on the true story of the development of the BBV152, commonly referred to as Covaxin, the coronavirus vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech in partnership with the National Institute of Virology and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Starring Anupam Kher, Nana Patekar, Sapthami Gowda and Pallavi Joshi, the film is directed by Vivek Agnihotri.

The Great Indian Family

This is Vicky Kaushal’s third family entertainer film after Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023), opposite Sara Ali Khan, and Govinda Naam Mera (2022) with Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar. The Great Indian Family is an interesting drama written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of “Dhoom 3” fame,  and it revolves around a Hindu man who battles an identity crisis when a letter claims he was born as a Muslim. Apart from Vicky, Manushi Chhillar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Alka Amin, and Bhuvan Arora play pivotal roles in the film. Yash Raj Films has produced this movie.

Tumse Na Ho Payega

This fun film takes an easy and lighthearted look at the difficulties young people face in society while pursuing their goals and passions. A gang of friends challenge their conservative community’s ‘what will people say’ mentality. The cast features Ishwak Singh, Mahima Makwana, Gaurav Pandey, Amala Akkineni, Gurpreet Saini, Parmeet Sethi, and Meghna Malik. Tumse Na Ho Payega is written by Nitesh Tiwary and directed by Abhishek Sinha.
