Antony

Antony has Joju George playing a hardened, brutal cop, a role that he is not totally new to. The film’s tease also has footage of Kalyani Priyadarshan in boxing attire. Looks like that she is also in a role that requires action. The film, directed by the veteran Joshiy, also stars Nyla Usha Chemban Vinod Jose, Vijayaraghavan, Asha Sarath, Jewel Mary, Appani Sarath, Tini Tom, RJ Shaan, Jinu Joseph, Giju John Padmaraj Ratheesh, Rajesh Sharma and Srikant Murali. Antony marks a reunion for Joju, Joshiy, Chemban, and Nyla after their 2019 film Porinju Mariam Jose.

Dance Party

Dance Party stars Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Sreenath Bhasi, Shine Tom Chacko, Jude Antony and Prayaga Martin in lead roles. Directed by Sohan Seenulal, the story is said to be a comedy caper. The film revolves around the members of a dance team preparing to participate in a big stage show. But things go haywire due to various reasons. This movie marks Sohan Seenulal’s sophomore directorial after Bharatha Circus. The film also features an ensemble cast including Fukru, Jude Anthony Joseph, Saju Navodaya, Lena, Prayaga Martin, Shraddha Gokul, Jolly Chirayat and Preeti.

Maharani

Roshan Mathew, Shine Tom Chacko, Johny Antony and Nisha Sarang play a family in director G Marthandan’s comedy entertainer. The film is set in Alappuzha district and revolves around the series of mishaps that happen in the neighborhood. Shine Tom Chacko and Roshan Mathew play brothers whose bond is akin to best friends, with no secrets between them. Maharani also addresses several subjects such as casteism, political violence and male chauvinism.

Falimy

Nithish Sahadev’s debut directorial is a mix of drama and emotion. The title ‘Falimy’ in English almost seems like a crossword clue for a dysfunctional ‘family’. The theme of the film’s story is exactly that — a family that grapples with internal issues. It stars Basil Joseph, Jagadeesh, Manju Pillai, Meenaraj Palluruthy and Sandeep Pradeep, among others. This comedy movie is among the typical Malayalam offering that works endearingly.

Chaaver

This is a political thriller, the kind that Malayalam cinema is known for. Kunchacko Boban headlines this  movie directed by Tinu Pappachan. He plays Sakhavu (comrade) Ashokan who is on the run for a crime he commits as a political worker.  It is a direct contrast to the role he played in his previous release Padmini.The movie also features Antony Varghese, Arjun Ashokan, Manoj KU, Sajin Gopu and Joy Mathew in key roles. Chaaver’s music has been handled by Justin Varghese, while Jinto George and Nishadh Yusuf are the cinematographer and editor, respectively.

Sesham Mikeil Fathima

Helmed by Manu C Kumar, Sesham Mikeil Fathima is said to be the tale of a young Muslim woman from Malabar aspiring to become a football commentator. She faces opposition from her family and others but continues in her quest of her dream career. Sesham Mike-il Fathima marks Kalyani Priyadarshan’s first solo project. Her last film appearance was in Khalid Rahman’s blockbuster Thallumaala (2022). In addition to Kalyani Priyadarshan, the film features, among others, Femina George, Sudheesh, Navas Vallikkunnu and Aneesh G Menon.

Phoenix

Directed by debutant filmmaker Vishnu Bharathan, who is a former associate of Midhun Manuel Thomas who penned and directed the crime thriller film Anjaam Pathiraa. Phoenix stars Chandhunadh, Aju Varghese and Anoop Menon in prominent roles. The film has two timelines and has garnered much attention. A family relocates to a remote place to try and rebuild its life. However, things take a turn for the worse when a new member joins them. A bunch of horrifying events ensue.

Kannur Squad

A Mammootty release always triggers expectations. Kannur Squad is no exception. Produced by the star himself under his Mammootty Kampany banner, the film marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj. Shot in Kerala and Maharashtra, this crime thriller features Mammootty in another of his cop roles. This police procedural story, based on true events, also has in the cast Rony David Raj, Azeez Nedumangad, Shabareesh Varma, Vijayaraghavan, Sreekumar, Sunny Wayne, Sarath Sabha and Kannada actor Kishore. The film had a good response in the theaters.

The movie is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Bandra

Bandra marks the reunion of actor Dileep and director Arun Gopy after Ramaleela, which released in 2017. Bandra is an action film, and marks the Malayalam debut of actress Tamannaah Bhatia. The film marks Dileep’s second theatrical release in 2023, after Voice of Sathyanathan. The film will be Kannada actor Aryan Santhosh’s first Malayalam movie.  Sarath Kumar, Dino Morea, Mamta Mohandas, VTV Ganesh, Gautam Rode, Sundar Raj, among others, are also part of the cast.

Vela

This police procedural cum crime drama stars Shane Nigam and Sunny Wayne in the leads. Directed by Syam Sasi, the film will have Shane playing a cop, who works in the police control room while Sunny plays an inspector. Actor-filmmaker Sidharth Bharathan is also essaying a crucial role of a senior police official. Apart from the lead actors, the film will also feature Aditi Balan and MV Namritha in pivotal roles. The emotional film is said to be based on real events.

Garudan

Garudan, directed by debutant Arun Varma, is a legal thriller. It stars Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon in the leads. The film marks Suresh Gopi’s return to the big screen after Mein Ho on Moosa. He plays a character that is his own in Malayalam movies — A cop. The film is scripted by Midhun Manuel Thomas based on Jinesh M’s story. The cast also includes Abhirami, Thalaivasal Vijay, Jagadish, Dileesh Pothan, Major Ravi, Nishant Sagar, Ranjini, and Malavika.

Pulimada

Pulimada is written and directed by AK Sajan. It also marks the return of renowned cinematographer-director Venu behind the camera after a gap of eight years. Pulimada has Joju George and Aishwarya Rajesh in the leads. Chemban Vinod Jose, Lijomol, Jaffer Idukki, Johny Antony, Jeo Baby, Krishnaprabha, Abin Bino, Pauly Valsan, Sona Nair, Jolly Chirayath, Shibla, Balachandra Menon and Abu Salim also star in it. Joju George plays a policeman.

Otta

Otta is the directorial debut of Oscar winner (for sound recording) Resul Pookutty. The story revolves around children who run away from home due to family issues. The film is based on the life of S Hariharan, a businessman who founded NGOs to support children who run away from home due to various problems. The film is headlined by an ensemble cast including Asif Ali, Arjun Ashokan, and Indrajith Sukumaran. It also features Sathyaraj, Rohini, Indrans, Adil Hussain, Divya Datta, Jaffer Idukki, Pookutty’s brother Baiju Pookutty and actor Jalaja’s daughter Devi Nair.

Little Miss Rawther

Little Miss Rawther is the tall and slim Shersha Sherief’s debut film as an actor and writer.  The story is about a ‘soulful musical romance’ between a tall guy and a petite woman. Their love story hits a low as they part ways. But what happens after that?

The film, directed by debutant Vishnu Dev, has 96-fame Gouri Kishan as the female lead. The film’s music is composed by Govind Vasantha, who is collaborating with Gouri for the second time after ’96. The movie also features Jishnu Sreekumar, Nikita Therese, Sangeetha Prathap Nandini Gopalakrishnan, Ranjith Velayudhan and Manoj KU.

Somante Krithavu

Somante Krithavu, which means Soman’s Sideburns, is about a man and his obsession with his magnificent and monstrous sideburns. But the story also involves civic issues and the dominance of the powerful and rich.

The film stars  Vinay Forrt in the lead role and is directed by debutant Rohith Narayanan. The ensemble cast also includes Fara Shibla, Seema G Nair, Devanandha, Jayan Cherthala, Riyas Narmakala, RJ Murugan, Annies Abraham and Ganga G Nair. Somante Krithavu has a story, screenplay and dialogues written by Ranjith K Haridas and Sajith Purushan, who shot Unda and Super Sharanya, is the director of photography.
