Al-Futtaim has announced the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’s UAE launch, adding a smaller, five-seat off-roader to a family that already includes the Land Cruiser 300, 70, and Prado. The new model pairs a 2.7-litre petrol engine with a six-speed automatic gearbox and part-time four-wheel drive, with EXR and GXR grades for local buyers.
Al-Futtaim positions the FJ as a more manageable Land Cruiser rather than a replacement for the larger models. Its shorter wheelbase, ladder-frame construction, and rear differential lock make the mechanical brief clear: retain the off-road hardware while reducing the vehicle’s footprint. Toyota UAE’s local vehicle catalogue lists the Land Cruiser FJ, but the supplied launch announcement doesn’t state an AED price or delivery timetable.
A shorter Land Cruiser, not a crossover
The FJ measures 4,610mm long and 1,855mm wide, with a 2,580mm wheelbase. That distance between the axles is 270mm shorter than the Prado’s. Al-Futtaim quotes a minimum turning radius of 5.5 metres, a useful spec for buyers who want an off-roader that can also navigate car parks and narrow streets.
Underneath, the vehicle retains a traditional ladder frame. Added braces beneath the floor increase lateral frame rigidity, while high-tensile steel and additional spot welding form part of the body construction. The announcement presents these changes as measures to support structural strength and ride comfort; they aren’t a substitute for an independent road test.

The suspension combines a high-mounted double-wishbone layout at the front with a four-link rigid rear axle and a lateral rod. That separates the FJ’s mechanical approach from road-focused crossovers in the compact SUV market. Buyers comparing the wider local range can start with our Toyota UAE buying guide.
Al-Futtaim also claims wheel articulation equivalent to the Land Cruiser 70 series. The release doesn’t provide numerical ground clearance or approach and departure angles, so prospective buyers should check those details rather than infer them from the Land Cruiser badge.
Petrol power and off-road controls
The naturally aspirated 2.7-litre engine produces 164hp and 245Nm of torque. The announced UAE specification has no hybrid or electric powertrain. The six-sower uses a part-time four-wheel-drive system, rather than one that permanently drives all four wheels.
An electric rear differential lock adds another off-road tool. By helping the rear wheels rotate together, it can assist traction when one side has less grip. The launch specification also includes Downhill Assist Control and Hill Start Assist Control. The former helps control steep descents, while the latter helps reduce rollback when pulling away on an incline.

These are driver aids, not evidence that the vehicle will clear every dune or trail. The announcement gives no fuel-consumption figure, towing rating, or measured off-road test results. For a buyer weighing daily commuting against weekend trips, those omissions leave important questions for the dealer and a future road test.
The petrol-only specification is also distinct from the electrification plans elsewhere in Al-Futtaim’s portfolio. Our interview with Jacques Brent on hybrids and EVs covers that broader discussion, rather than a hybrid version of this FJ.
Five seats and a practical cabin
Inside, the FJ uses two rows rather than a three-row layout. The 60:40-split second row slides, reclines, and folds, letting owners adjust space for passengers and luggage. Al-Futtaim quotes 765 litres of luggage capacity with the rear seats in use and 1,522 litres with them folded. The available cargo length reaches up to 1,480mm.
The dashboard follows a horizontal layout, with grouped displays and switches and a low-set instrument panel. The distributor says that arrangement supports visibility and helps drivers judge the vehicle’s position on uneven ground. How easily drivers can place the corners in practice will need testing.

Both grades get a 12.3-inch display audio system with wireless Apple CarPlay. That’s one of the clearest shared equipment points in the announcement: buyers don’t need to choose the GXR solely to get the larger multimedia display and wireless iPhone integration. The release doesn’t specify Android Auto support.
Outside, the design combines a square cabin, U-shaped front and rear lights, a rear-mounted spare tyre, roof rails, and side steps. Colour options include White Pearl, Ash, Black, Bronze, and Smoky Blue. EXR models use 17-inch alloy wheels; GXR models use 18-inch alloys.
GXR adds the listed safety package
The most important equipment distinction concerns driver assistance. Al-Futtaim explicitly assigns Toyota Safety Sense 3 to the GXR grade, including the Pre-Collision Safety System and Lane Departure Alert. It also lists a Panoramic View Monitor and Blind Spot Monitor for that grade.
The camera system improves visibility around the vehicle when manoeuvring, while blind-spot monitoring alerts the driver to vehicles outside the driver’s clear mirror sightlines. These systems assist the driver; they don’t make the FJ self-driving.
The announcement doesn’t establish that the EXR receives the same package. Buyers comparing dealer quotations should therefore check the grade-specific equipment list, not assume that every safety feature mentioned in the launch material applies across the range.

Is the new Land Cruiser FJ the same as the older FJ Cruiser?
No. This announcement concerns the Land Cruiser FJ, a new member of the Land Cruiser range. When requesting a quotation or searching listings, use the full model name to avoid confusing it with an older FJ Cruiser.
What should UAE buyers confirm before ordering?
Ask Al-Futtaim Toyota for the grade-specific AED price, delivery estimate, warranty terms, and complete specification sheet. Thd announcement doesn’includesh those purchase details, ane safety equipmenvaries by gradees.
