What did Tom Holland pitch for Brand New Day?

Holland pitched a body-horror version of Peter Parker’s evolving powers, complete with Man-Spider nightmares and some deeply unpleasant hand fangs.

As our sister site IGN Middle East reports, Holland told Josh Horowitz that he was invited into the writers’ room and allowed to contribute ideas. The creative team explored Peter developing organic webs, sharper senses, greater strength, and increased aggression.

Holland wanted to push the transformation further. His pitches included “fangs that come out of his hands”, venom spikes, and nightmare sequences in which Peter wakes up as Man-Spider. That last concept traditionally turns Spider-Man’s mutation into something much more monstrous and much less suited to lunchboxes.

The team quickly decided it was “a little bit too creepy” because it wanted children and adults to enjoy the film. Holland confirmed that the fangs, venom spikes, and Man-Spider sequences are absent from the finished movie, adding that exploring bad ideas can help creators find the good ones.

He also said separately that he “hated” an early cut shaped by test-screening feedback and that the film changed considerably during post-production. His comments offer one side of that process; Marvel and Sony have not separately detailed their response to the Man-Spider proposal.

What remains of Peter Parker’s physical transformation?

Brand New Day still gives Peter a dangerous physical evolution, but its precise form remains deliberately unspecified in the official synopsis.

Sony Pictures’ official Brand New Day page says Peter is fighting crime full-time in a New York City that no longer remembers his name. Emotional strain triggers a change he may be unable to control as he faces a powerful villain whom nobody can see.

Holland’s account shows how much stranger that change could have become. Organic webs were among the ideas explored, lending extra context to Brand New Day’s Peter 2 and organic-web callback, but the official synopsis does not identify any particular new power or mutation.

That leaves the film with the threat of transformation without committing to full creature-feature territory. It sounds like the sensible cut: Peter can have an existential crisis without also sprouting enough spider anatomy to empty a family screening.

When is Spider-Man: Brand New Day showing in the UAE?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is listed in UAE cinemas from 30 July, while Sony and Marvel give the film an official theatrical date of 31 July.

VOX Cinemas lists the film for 30 July 2026 and offers online booking in the UAE. Novo Cinemas also lists a 30 July local release, while Reel Cinemas held a dawn fan screening at Dubai Mall on 29 July.

The launch is being presented as cinema-exclusive, with no official UAE streaming window attached to the release. For now, the place to see Holland’s evolving Spider-Man — safely free of hand fangs, apparently — is the big screen.
