What is Singles Day?
Originating in China, Singles Day was initially intended as a cheeky way for Chinese college students to commemorate being single, as evidenced by the date’s numerical representation of 1-1-1-1 (November 11).
Over the years, Singles Day has grown to become a global shopping phenomenon, rivalling popular retail events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Singles’ Day gained significant commercial traction when Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba started promoting it as a shopping day back in 2009.
Today, Singles’ Day shopping is no longer exclusive to China; it has transcended borders and gained popularity in several countries including the UAE and Saudi Arabia. As a result, many international retailers have joined in on the sales event, offering a wide range of products at discounted prices. Consumers can find attractive deals on beauty products, tech gadgets, apparel, and more.
When is Singles Day 2023?
Singles Day is celebrated on November 11 in China, however, the sale event is over a few days. For Singles Day 2023, Amazon is offering discounts on products from the 9th to the 12th of November but Amazon Prime members will be able to access deals a day earlier- November 8th.
