iPhone 14 Plus

iPhone fans don’t take surprises so happily; the proof of this was the not-so-successful iPhone 12 mini. But it seems that iPhone has bounced back from its mistakes, and this time, it’s not going for smaller but bigger and better.

We haven’t seen a Plus model of an iPhone series for a long time, but this is about to change since Apple announced the 14 series with four members: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The dimensions and screen size are the first things you would notice while comparing the specs of the vanilla iPhone 14 and the Plus model. Plus is bigger than the standard iPhone 14, but are there any other improvements involved? Let’s find out.

The iPhone 14 Plus is on our list of best phones for 2023

Pricing and availability

iPhone 14 Plus was announced in September and released on September 16, 2022. The pricing of this generation of phones follows a pattern where each superior model costs AED 400 ($100) more than the inferior one.

Design and display

iPhone 14 and 14 Plus size comparison

Design-wise, iPhone 14 Plus is similar to iPhone 13 Pro Max, with thicker screen bezels and fewer camera lenses. The 6.7-inch display has a notch design that fans are familiar with, and a ceramic shield layer protects it.

The smartphone is resilient, rated with IP68, indicating that it will survive submerging up to 6 meters. This also means it is splash resistant, so you can pull your phone out of your pocket in the rain with no issues.

iPhone 14 Plus is essentially iPhone 14 Pro Max in size but iPhone 14 in specifications. It seems like Apple has no intention of cracking up the screen refresh rate for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus to the now flagship traditional 120Hz and has kept it to the old-fashioned 60 Hz. No need to mention that the display receives HDR support and True Tone.

The Plus model’s display can produce 800 nits of brightness, making it a great option for people who spend most of their time outside.

Features and performance

iPhone 14 Plus gaming and performance

Apple has blessed the Pro versions of iPhone 14 with the latest Apple A16 Bionic processor but wasn’t so kind towards iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. These two models have received a slightly upgraded version of the A15 Bionic with a better gaming GPU which has one more core than the outgoing iPhone 13.

Since games are getting more graphical complexity but the screen specs remain the same as iPhone 13, there should be no problem in running brand new games or carrying out daily tasks on this phone.

We need to mention the speakers and haptic feedback for the on-screen keyboard to discuss the other features. The speakers are loud and seem to create clearer sounds. The earpiece speaker also joins in to create a stereo effect when watching a movie or playing music. The iPhone 14 Plus also features Bluetooth 5.3 connection to pair with your beloved external speaker or headphones.

The haptic feedback on the on-screen keyboard also is a new feature but is off by default, and you must turn it on from the settings.

iPhone 14 Plus software iOS 16

The new family comes packed with the all-new OS, iOS 16. The most notable changes with the new OS are a Customizable lock screen, new widgets, and adjustable font for the widgets and lock screen.

The iOS update received several new small apps, privacy and security updates, and a passcode manager.

One of the coolest features is the Lockdown mode which strictly restricts certain phone functions, which may give hackers a chance to steal your information. Aside from improvements, the OS runs smoothly and includes no lags or stutters.

iPhone 14 Plus cameras

The iPhone 14 Plus is equipped with Dual 12 MP cameras, one for Wide shots and one for Ultrawide. The main lens has optical image stabilization, which means to stabilize the video, the camera sensor physically moves while filming and can record 4K videos with 60 frames per second.

The selfie camera is also 12 mega Pixels and can record 4K, 60FPS. Moreover, it supports Night and Portrait modes.

Battery & Charging

iPhone 14 Plus battery and charging

The head of the advertisement campaign for the iPhone 14 Plus made sure to put “longest battery life ever” in every advertisement. This makes sense when you look at the battery capacity of 4,325 mAh and the power consumption rate of the device (60Hz screen and a power-efficient chip).

In tests, the battery has shown great endurance, lasting up to two days under normal use and 20 hours while video streaming.

With greater battery capacity comes greater charging times. But this isn’t true for iPhone 14 Plus since you can recharge the phone up to 50 percent in 30 mins and to the full in almost an hour with wired 20W charging. Of course, you will have to buy the charger separately.

iPhone is not the same without MagSafe charging, and iPhone 14 Plus supports 15W of wireless MagSafe charging, which halves (7.5W) if you use a conventional Qi wireless charger.
