Oppo Reno8 T 5G

Oppo is no stranger to good-looking mid-end phones. The company has released quite a few Reno based smartphones, and the latest edition to the family is the Oppo Reno8 T 5G. This phone’s highlighting feature is a gorgeous 6.7-inch AMOLED display with super thin bezels and a high refresh rate. It’s also got good charging speeds and a nice design, but there is one area where Oppo cheapened out- it’s using an old processor that restricts the capabilities of this otherwise good phone.

Oppo Reno8 T 5G Price and availability

The Reno8 T 5G was launched in India in February 2023, followed by the UAE. The Reno8 T 5G price in India is set to ₹38,999 for the model with 8GB RAM and 128 GB storage, while the UAE pricing is set to AED 1,499 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB Storage model.

Design and display

The Oppo Reno8 T 5G is a beautiful phone with a dual micro-curved design- or at least that’s what Oppo calls it. It’s a super slim phone at just 7.7mm that curves around the edges and looks as premium as a flagship phone.

It’s also fairly lightweight at just 171 g, which is quite light for a phone with a massive 6.7-inch display. Oppo has released the Reno8 T 5G in two colours: Sunrise Gold and Midnight Black. The Sunrise Gold looks gorgeous with varying shades of yellow and orange.

The screen on the Reno8 T Pro is identical to the one Oppo used on the Reno8 Pro last year. It’s still a fantastic display, and you’re getting it at a lower price point now. The large 6.7-inch AMOLED screen has barely-there bezels at 2.32mm, giving it a screen-to-body ratio of 93%.

The large screen has a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit colour. The resolution is 1080 x 2412 pixels, and the peak brightness is 950 nits, which is fine for a mid-range phone.

Features and performance

If there is one thing that disappoints on the Oppo Reno8 T 5G, it’s the choice of processor that Oppo has used. The Snapdragon 695 was announced in 2021 and is usually found on phones that are about half the price. This SoC was used by Oppo on the Reno8 Lite 5G last year, which costs under AED 1,000, so putting it on brand-new premium mid-ranged phones feels out of place.

The phone comes in just one configuration in the UAE, which is with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Connectivity-wise, you get Wi-Fi 5 with Bluetooth 5.1- both of which are older standards- and again, not expected in a phone of this price range. You do get 5G support and dual SIM capabilities.

It’s good to see Oppo using the latest version of Android on this phone, Android 13. The phone comes with the ColorOS 13 skin on top, one of the better skins for Android.

Camera

The Oppo Reno8 T 5G is the first Oppo phone to feature a 108MP camera. We’ve seen such high-resolution sensors on phones from Xiaomi and Samsung, and it’s good to have Oppo in the same camp. The camera supports most modes you’d expect, such as Night and Portrait.

Besides the 108MP f/1.7 primary camera, a 2MP Microlens camera lets you take extreme close-ups of objects. Oppo has used this on their previous Find X phones, and it produces amazing results. There’s an additional 2MP depth camera on the back, which should also help with Portrait mode.

On the video side, the Oppo Reno8 5T can record at 1080P and 30 fps. Yes, you read that right. A phone with a 108MP primary camera should be capable of doing much more than that but the Snapdragon 695 chipset limits that. This is not it if you want to buy a phone with good video capabilities.

Coming to the front camera, the punch-hole cutout on the screen houses a 32MPf/2.4  camera. The front camera is also capable of 1080p videos and, like the back camera, supports Dual-View, Slo-Mo and other modes.

Battery & Charging

The Vivo V25 Pro was equipped with a 4830 mAh battery is reduced to 4,600 mAh on the Vivo V27 Pro. It could be due to reducing the overall weight of the phone from 190g to 182g. But it’s a downgrade.

On the positive side, the phone can charge from 0% to 50% in 19 minutes, whereas it would take 15 minutes for the Vivo V25 Pro to charge from 0% to 40%.

Oppo Reno8 T 5G Reviews

YouTube video

Emkwaan thinks that the Oppo Reno 5G smartphone boasts a premium design, 108MP camera, and impressive specs, but it’s zoom and front-facing camera have some limitations. Oppo’s Color OS has some bloatware, but they are incorporating 48-month fluency protection to maintain smoothness and performance over a two-year period.

YouTube video

Lim Reviews mentions the phone comes in two colours, midnight black and sunrise gold, with a matte back panel that prevents fingerprints and is super slim and lightweight. The Oppo Reno8 T has a slimmer and more compact design with a larger 6.7-inch curved display and 120-hertz refresh rate.

YouTube video

Techish suggests that Oppo’s new phone offers clean software, regular updates, customization options, and a 108MP camera system, but it lacks HDR support and shoots only 1080p content. This Oppo device has a smooth and visually appealing design with full HD Netflix playback but lacks HDR support and has a maximum brightness of 950 nits.
