Design
One of the most striking features of the new Apple iMac M3 is its slim and sleek form factor. It only measures 11.5mm in thickness, which is thinner than most laptops. It maintains its sleek and minimalist design that blends in with your home decor. You can place it on your desk, living room, or bedroom without taking up a lot of space.
Since the iMacs are all about personality, the new ones come in seven vibrant colours, adding style to your workspace. You can choose from green, pink, blue, silver, yellow, orange, and purple, depending on your colour preferences.
The colours are not isolated to the back of the iMac M3 but also to the stand and the screen bezels, creating a seamless and harmonious look.

Display
If you’ve been following Apple hardware for some time, you know one of their trademarks is their Retina displays. The new iMac M3 features a brilliant 4.5K one that delivers stunning visuals and vivid colours.
The display has a resolution of 4480 x 2520 pixels and supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, enhancing the contrast and brightness of the display for a more realistic viewing experience.
Since most iMac users are creative professionals, it helps that the display comes with impeccable colour accuracy, covering 99% of the P3 colour gamut. It lets you see every detail of your photos, videos, or graphics.
Performance
Of all the features on the iMac, performance is where it shines the most, thanks to the brand-new M3 Apple Silicon. It has 8 CPU cores and up to 10 GPU cores for tasks like browsing, editing, gaming, and more.
On top of these processing cores, there’s a 16-core Neural Engine for advanced AI and machine learning like face recognition, voice control, and image processing.
Apart from the processing gains, the new iMac also has up to 24GB of unified memory and up to 2TB of SSD storage, giving you flexibility on which one to get depending on your workflow.

Cameras and Microphones
Regarding its other hardware, the new iMac M3 does not hold back, especially with the updated 1080p FaceTime HD camera that captures clear video calls. It also has a studio-quality microphone that reduces background noise and enhances your voice for a better video conferencing experience.
Additionally, it’s also a content consumption machine with a six-speaker sound that delivers immersive and rich sound quality. It supports Dolby Atmos, creating a three-dimensional sound field for that surround experience.
Connectivity
The iMac M3 has four Thunderbolt ports that support DisplayPort and power delivery. It allows you to plug up to two external displays or other devices with ease. These ports also have a high bandwidth of up to 40Gbps for quick data transfers for all your large files.
There’s an Ethernet port on the new iMac, which supports gigabit speeds, providing a fast and reliable internet connection. It allows you to plug your iMac into your router with a cable and enjoy a stable and secure connection.
As for wireless connectivity, the iMac M3 supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.0 for faster connections. Bluetooth, on the other hand, enables low-energy and long-range wireless between your Mac and other devices.

Software and Ecosystem
If you’re an iPhone user or embedded in the Apple ecosystem, an advantage the iMac offers is seamless access. The integration between your iMac, iPhone, and other Apple devices is impeccable.
You can access your iPhone on your iMac with Continuity, allowing you to make or receive calls, send or receive messages, browse the web, or use other apps. You’ll also enjoy Universal Clipboard, where you can copy text on your iPhone and paste it on your iMac.
Transferring files is also a breeze with AirDrop.
Should You Buy the New iMac M3?
The M1 iMacs offered a significant design change and a performance bump compared to its Intel counterparts. The M3-equipped iMacs do offer a 40% to 60% performance boost. However, for most use cases, like browsing the web, writing up emails, and video conferencing, you won’t necessarily feel the speed gains.
If you’re still using an Intel iMac, getting the M3 version is going to be the best decision you’re going to make. If you have the previous M1 iMac, unless you’re maxing out the chip with many creative workloads, you should stick to it.
The downside to these new iMacs, though, is that they don’t come with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips for power users. For that, you’ll have to look into the new MacBook Pros to see which ones should cover your needs.
For iMacs, though, we’ll have to wait if these powerful chips become available in a future iMac Pro.
